Here are the candidates for the Michigan High School Athlete of the Week for May 22-28 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced Monday.

Track & Field

Michael Wright, Vicksburg High School

Senior Michael Wright had a great performance for Vicksburg at the MITCA Division 2 Team State Championships. 

Wright took first place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.68, first place in the 200m run with a time of 21.68, marking a personal record and the fifth fastest time in the state in that event this year among the men’s division. 

Wright also contributed to a second place finish in the 4x100 relay, and a third place finish in the 4x200 relay.

Malachi Mosley, East Kentwood High School

Sophomore Malachi Mosley had himself a performance at the MITCA Division 1 Team State Championships. 

Mosley took first place in the 400m run with a time of 48.67, marking a personal record and the sixth fastest time in that event in the state this year among the men’s division. 

Mosley also contributed to a first place finish in the 4x400 relay, a third place finish in the 4x200 relay, and a fourth place finish in the 4x100 relay.

Samuel Allen, Kalamazoo Loy Norrix

Senior Samuel Allen had a good week on the track for Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. At the Kalamazoo County All-Star Meet, Allen took first place in the 400m run with a time of 50.65, marking a season best. 

Then, at Distance Night Under the Lights at Houseman Field, Allen took first place in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.11, marking a personal record and the second fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division.

Benne Anderson, Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills

Senior Benne Anderson showed out this week for GR Ottawa Hills. At the U of M Health-West Sports Medicine Scholarship Invite, Anderson finished first place in the 800m run with a time of 1:49.68, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division. 

Then, at Distance Night Under the Lights at Houseman Field, Anderson took first place in the 3200m run with a time of 8:40.90, marking another personal record and the fastest time in the state in that event this year among the men’s division.

Jaxson Tober, Spring Lake High School

Senior Jaxson Tober displayed his talents for Spring Lake at the West Michigan Track Invitational. 

Tober took second place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.10, and took first place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 38.62, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division. 

Tober also contributed to first place finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Kamryn Tatum, West Bloomfield High School

Freshman Kamryn Tatum showed her dominance for West Bloomfield. 

At the 9th Grade Oakland County Championships, Tatum took first place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.13, and first place in the 200m run with a time of 24.98. At the 64th Oakland County Championships, Tatum finished first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.89, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division. 

Tatum also contributed to a second place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Rachel Forsyth, Ann Arbor Pioneer

Junior Rachel Forsyth had a record breaking performance at the 23 Larry Steeb Meet of Champs. 

Forsyth took first place in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.31, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division.

Anna Delgado, East Lansing High School

Senior Anna Delgado had good performances this week for East Lansing. At the CAAC Blue Conference Meet, Delgado finished first place in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.30, marking a personal record. 

Then, at the Greater Lansing Honor Roll Meet of Champions, she took first place in the 1600m run with a time of 4:48.93, marking another personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division.

Morgan Roundtree, Oak Park High School

Junior Morgan Roundtree had herself a performance at the 64th Oakland County Championships. 

Roundtree finished second place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.85, marking a personal record and the third fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division.

Lindsay Johnson, Detroit Cass Tech

Junior Lindsay Johnson showed out at the DPSCD City Championship. 

Johnson took first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.91, and first place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.29, marking a personal record and the third fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division. 

Softball

Katelyn DeWitt, Grand Blanc High School

Junior Kate DeWitt had a spectacular performance for Grand Blanc as they knocked off the defending state champions, Allen Park, 13-5. 

DeWitt went 2-for-4 at bat as she notched five RBIs, and two home runs.

Ashley Rosiewicz, Plymouth High School

Senior Ashley Rosiewicz had great performances for Plymouth in their two wins against Glenn. 

In a 15-7 win, Rosiewicz notched a perfect 1.000 batting average as she finished with three runs, two RBIs, one double, and one home run. In an 18-6 win, she would go 2-for-3 at bat finishing with three runs, five RBIs, and two home runs.

Ava Craft, Edsel Ford High School

Junior Ava Craft was stellar all week for Edsel Ford with her performances. Despite a 17-1 loss to Trenton, Craft went 1-for-2 at bat with one home run. 

In an 11-9 loss to Taylor, Craft went 2-for-4 at bat as she finished with two runs, four RBIs, and one home run. 

Then, in a 17-2 win over Henry Ford Academy, she would post a 1.000 batting average as she notched two runs, three RBIs, one double, and one home run.

Nathalie Hagle, Lakeland High School

Lakeland’s Nathalie Hagle had two good performances on Thursday as Lakeland took on Howell. 

In a 9-7 loss, Hagle finished 3-for-4 at bat with one run, three RBIs, one double, and one home run.

In a 13-8 win, she would post a .500 batting average as she notched three runs, two RBIs, and one home run.

Liz Zakens, Lakeview High School

Junior Liz Zakens had a great week of softball for Lakeview. In a 7-3 win against Rochester, Zakens was 2-for-3 at bat as she finished with one run, four RBIs, and one home run. 

In a 15-1 loss to Dakota, Zakens was 1-for-2 at bat with one run, one RBI, and one home run. And in a 7-1 loss to Utica, she would finish with a .667 batting average as she notched one run, one RBI, and one home run. 

Baseball

Jaxon Huffman, Mona Shores High School

For the second consecutive week, Jaxon Huffman displayed his talents for Mona Shores in their huge 35-0 win over Muskegon. Huffman finished with a .500 batting average as he notched two runs, five RBIs, one double and one home run on three hits.

Joe Wise, Barry County Christian

Senior Joe Wise had a great performance in a win against Lee, 20-0. 

Wise went 2-for-4 at bat as he finished with three runs, four RBIs, and one home run.

Peyton Teachworth, Lowell High School

Lowell’s Peyton Teachworth showed out despite its 5-4 loss to Northview. 

Teachworth finished with a .750 batting average with two runs, two RBIs, and two home runs.

Ethan Hull, Ithaca High School

Senior Ethan Hull had a good week for Ithaca in a win against St. Louis and a loss against Valley Lutheran. 

Against St. Louis Hull finished 2-for-4 at bat as he had two runs, and three RBIs. 

Against Valley Lutheran he would go 1-for-1 at bat finishing with one run, two RBIs, and one home run.

Ferris Eldred, Hudsonville High School

Sophomore Ferris Eldred had a good performance for Hudonsville in a 6-3 win over Grand Haven. 

Eldred finished 1-for-2 at bat with one run, three RBIs, and one home run.
