Michigan high school softball state tournament: Gaylord rolls Vicksburg in D2 final

Braleigh Miller and Alexis Shepherd both tied MHSAA records in the game

The Gaylord Blue Devils defeated the Vicksburg Bulldogs 8-3 in Division 2 MHSAA softball championship game on Saturday at Secchia Stadium.

Alexis Kozlowski hit a home run over the center field wall to give Gaylord a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Vicksburg's Peyton Smith grounded out with the bases loaded, but she plated a runner to cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning. 

But Gaylord added three runs in the bottom of the inning. Abby Radulski scored an unearned run on a Vicksburg error. Alexis Shepherd doubled down the left field line for a 2-run RBI and a 5-1 lead.

The Blue Devils built a big lead in the sixth inning. Braleigh Miller hit her fourth hit of the game, tying the MHSAA Finals record. Shepherd doubled again for 2-RBIs. Her second double of the game tied the MHSAA Finals game record with two doubles.

Smith hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Kayla Chisolm scored an unearned run in the seventh inning for an eventual final score of 8-3.

Shepherd finished with two hits and four RBIs. Kozlowski finished with three RBIs.

On the mound, Gaylord's Aubrey Jones pitched seven innings. She allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts to two walks.

Vicksburg's Smith finished with two RBIs. Maddison Diekman recorded two hits.
