Michigan high school baseball state tournament: Bridgman wins D3 title over Algonac
The Beal City Aggies defeated the Plymouth Christian Eagles 2-1 in the Division 4 MHSAA baseball title game at McLane Stadium on Saturday.
In a pitching duel, Plymouth Christian and Beal City matched each other with one run in the fourth inning.
The Eagles' Tyler Scott singled to right field to plate Riley Brodhagen.
Plymouth Christian gave the Aggies their run in the fourth inning. Jake Gauthier reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jordan Scott, and Cayden Smith scored, unearned.
Beal City capitalized on more Eagle errors in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jake Gauthier singled down the left field line. Blake Walcutt reached first on a fielders' choice, and Gauthier advanced to second on a throwing error on Tyler Scott.
Braylon Zucker also reached base on a fielders' choice, and another throwing error allowed Gauthier score.
Walcutt entered to close the final two outs, and threw seven pitches to earn the save and the title for the Aggies.
Smith finished with two hits in the box, and on the mound he finished with 6.1 innings pitched, allowing three hits, one earned run while striking out 11 and walking three.
Plymouth Christian pitcher Tyler Scott finished with six innings pitched. He allowed four hits and no earned runs while striking out four and walking one.
