Top games in Minnesota high school football in week 7

Another top-10 game for Rosemount, while Simley can make a statement this week

SBLive's Minnesota high school football Power 25 heading into week 7

Vote now: Who should be SBLive's Minnesota Athlete of the Week?

Academy of Holy Angels at No. 14 Chanhassen, 10/13, 7 p.m.

Chanhassen is fewer than one touchdown away from being undefeated on the season. The Storm rebounded after a tough loss to Robbinsdale Armstrong by beating a solid Waconia team last week 37-35. Chanhassen has struggled on defense recently after holding opponents to 11 points per game the first four weeks of the season. In the last two games combined, the Storm have allowed 34.5 points per game.

Holy Angels has not played any team at the level of Chanhassen this year. They only have one loss on the season, but it was against a one win Robbinsdale Cooper squad. The Stars only have one loss on the season but Chanhassen has played a tough schedule and should pose a decent challenge for them.

No. 4 Shakopee at No. 6 Lakeville South, 10/13, 7 p.m.

Shakopee is on fire. The Sabers have rattled off four wins in a row after a close week two loss to Prior Lake. Shakopee surprised Eden Prairie with a 31-14 blowout victory and are coming together nicely down the stretch. Shakopee is out rushing its opponents 2043-443 on the season and will look to continue its strong ground game against Lakeville South.

Lakeville South has struggled with elite teams in Eden Prairie and Rosemont this season. It has played one of the most difficult schedules and will look to show Shakopee that it can keep pace with the Sabers insane rushing totals.

This has the makings of the game of the week in Minnesota.

No. 8 Prior Lake at No. 1 Rosemount, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Rosemount looks to keep aim at the No. 1 spot in the SBLive's Minnesota power rankings when Prior Lake comes to town. Rosemount has held its opponents to under a touchdown per game, and Prior Lake has struggled the last few weeks, losing to Eden Prairie and Lakeville South in close games.

If Prior Lake can survive this insanely difficult stretch of games, it can put itself in better position with the playoffs looming. Prior Lake has to come out ahead of one of these games to prove that it is ready for a title run.

No. 11 Robbinsdale Armstrong at Chaska, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Robbinsdale Armstrong looks to continue its undefeated season traveling to Chaska on Friday night. Jamen Malone, and the rushing attack for Robbinsdale Armstrong, are seemingly unbeatable this season. The Falcons have also played fantastic defense this year and only allowed a great Chanhassen team to come close to beating them.

Chaska could easily be undefeated this season. It lost two close games to Chanhassen and Waconia, both of which are great teams. Chaska will look to keep the ball out of the hands of Malone and company by running the ball. Chaska is averaging a staggering 262 yards rushing a game.

No. 15 Mahtomedi at No. 16 Simley, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Mahtomedi hopes to avenge its first loss of the season against surprising Simley. Running back Corey Bohmert had his lowest rushing output of the season, and the Zephyrs were stymied last week against St. Thomas Academy 28-14.

Simley, if it can get past Mahtomedi, has an opportunity to finish the year undefeated. Mahtomedi is the toughest game on its schedule this season as it has won all its previous games by a minimum twenty points.

Mahtomedi has to win this one to maintain positioning in the playoffs. It can ill afford to drop a late season game to a 4A team.

No. 24 Minnetonka at No. 19 Centennial, 10/14, 7 p.m.

This one has the makings of a low scoring affair. Both teams employ solid defenses and are coming off shutouts of previous week opponents.

The Cougars have lost two very close games to two top-three teams in the state in Maple Grove and Stillwater. Centennial surprisingly blew out a solid Blaine team 34-0 last week at Blaine. Centennial seems to be hitting its stride down the stretch and could be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

Minnetonka is coming off a shutout of Totino-Grace 24-0 but lost badly to a .500 St. Michael-Albertville team the previous week. If Minnetonka can play a complete game, it could upset Centennial at home.

Zimmerman at Milaca, 10/14, 7 p.m.

This one features two 5-1 teams that have improved vastly over the 2022 season. Milaca has already beat its win total this season, and Zimmerman has one early loss to a great Princeton team early this season.

Zimmerman is rushing for an absurd 343.7 yards per game, led by Caden Spence, who has 1230 yards and 11.1 yards per carry.

Milaca is coming off a tough loss to New London-Spicer and beat the same Princeton team that beat Zimmerman. Milaca will have its work cut out for it, but if it can slow down Spence, it has a chance to pull off the upset.

Winona at No. 22 Stewartville, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Stewartville may be the most dominant team in its class in the state this season. The Tigers have only allowed a total of 5.5 points per game on the season. Its closest game on the season was a 31-10 victory over Kasson-Mantorville last week.

Winona has one loss on the season and is likely the only team standing in the way of an undefeated regular season for Stewartville. Winona will look to play spoiler, but it should not be overlooked as possible contenders. Winona’s defense has been very opportunistic on the season, hauling in 10 interceptions.

Delano at Hutchinson, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Delano has to be one of the unluckiest teams in the state. It has three close losses to Becker, Buffalo and Wilmar. All three of those losses were within three points. It was blown out by Rocori early in the season but could legitimately be 5-1 going into a match up with Hutchinson.

Hutchinson continues its dominance over its competition this season having only one loss to Becker. Hutchinson has out rushed opponents 2291-412 on the season, and it is averaging nearly 382 yards a game on the ground.

Osseo at White Bear Lake, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Don’t look now but Osseo is on a heater. Osseo has rattled off two wins in a row and more importantly defeated a solid East Ridge team. East Ridge had just come off a 28-0 blowout over undefeated Woodbury, and Osseo beat them 35-19.

White Bear Lake rebounded nicely after a tough loss to Stillwater defeating Anoka 45-20. White Bear Lake has its sights set on the playoffs, but it should not overlook Osseo in this matchup.

Other games to watch:

Eagan at Burnsville, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Edina at Eden Prairie, 10/14, 7 p.m.

Mounds View at Stillwater, 10/14, 7 p.m.
