Boys’ Basketball

Brooks Johnson, Duluth Marshall

The sophomore forward scored 50 points and had 20 rebounds in an 89-71 loss to Grand Rapids on Feb. 21. He had another double-double two days later, scoring 29 points and grabbing 24 boards in a 73-65 loss at Nashwauk-Keewatin. His 31 points-per-game scoring average is second-best in the state.

Aiden Johnson, Legacy Christian

The senior forward was three assists shy of a triple-double, scoring 14 points, collecting 16 rebounds and dishing seven assists in an 81-55 win at Heritage Christian, Feb. 21. The day before that he had 21 points and 14 rebounds in an 83-56 win at Eagle Ridge Academy. He’s fourth in Minnesota in rebounds per game (13.6).

Cooper Drews, Princeton

The senior guard had 40 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists in a 96-85 loss to Chisago Lakes on Feb. 24. He also scored 21 points and had nine boards in an 85-58 win over Becker on Feb. 21. His 143 assists are eighth-most in the state.

Gunnar Lund, Roseau

The junior came within three steals of a triple-double with 29 points and 20 rebounds in a 77-34 rout of Lake of the Woods on Feb. 20. He scored 30 points and had 12 boards in a loss at Warroad the next day, and another double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-60 win at Crookston, Feb. 23. He’s fourth in Minnesota with 296 rebounds.

Max Shikenjanski, Stillwater

The senior scored 42 points, and his Mustangs needed every one of them in a 67-64 win over Roseville on Feb. 24. He’s eighth in the state with a 26.8 points-per-game scoring average.

Girls’ Basketball

Taryn Hamling, Grand Rapids

The senior guard and North Dakota State Universoty commit had 29 points and six steals in a 59-47 win over Esko on Feb. 21. She followed that up with 28 points in a 73-29 drubbing of Duluth Denfeld on Feb. 24. She made six three-pointers in each game, placing her sixth in Minnesota with 88 treys made.

Marta Forsline, Mesabi East

The freshman scored 36 points on 65.2 percent shooting, grabbed 23 rebounds and had six blocks in an 85-63 win over Two Harbors on Feb. 21. She’s tied for ninth in the state with 574 points, ranks sixth with 287 rebounds, 10th in rebounding average (11) and eighth in blocks (64).

Rachel Kottke, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart

The junior guard was two steals shy of a triple-double, with 22 points, 11 assists and six rebounds to go with eight steals in a 98-31 thumping of Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Feb. 20. Her 168 assists are third-most in Minnesota, and her 105 steals rank 12th in the state.

Karly Jusczak, Pine City

The sophomore forward scored 23 points, had 18 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a 67-59 win over Milaca on Feb. 25. She had 25 points and eight boards in a 77-63 win over Cloquet on Feb. 20. Her 299 rebounds are fifth-most in Minnesota, and her 12 rebounds per game is sixth-best.

Tessa Johnson, St. Michael-Albertville

The senior guard scored 45 points in a 104-94 loss at Hopkins, Feb. 21, and followed it up with 34 points in a 76-62 win at Minnetonka, Feb. 24. Her 24.5 points per game is tied for the sixth-best scoring average in the state.
