Vote now: Who should be the Minnesota high school girls team of the year?
The 2022-23 Minnesota high school girls basketball year is over, and many teams throughout the state had seasons worth noting.
We chose a handful of teams that had the best seasons. Vote for who you think should be recognized as the top team in Minnesota high school girls sports.

The Trojans went 30-4 and added another fantastic season and a third straight Class 4A title. Olivia Swenson, junior, Stella Swenson, junior, and Sophia Johnson, senior, were all named to the MNVBCA Class 4A All-State team. Avery Jesewitz, junior, and Katie Kelzenberg, sophomore, were named to the All-Conference team for the Lake Conference.
Marshall, also a dominant program, added another state title to its trophy cabinet. It's the eighth in program history and second in a row. The Tigers went 31-2, with the only two losses coming to Class 4A runner-up Lakeville North.
Leah Jones, senior, Caitlyn Christenson, senior, and Lauren Wherry, senior, were all named to the MNVBCA Class 3A All-State team. Jones was a Baden Award Finalist.
The Irish completed a 21-1 season and a Class 3A state title in 2022. They defeated Edina 1-0 in the title game for their first in school history.
Jordan Hecht, Taylor Heimerl, Grace Bartlam and Rilyn Rintoul, all seniors, were named to the MSHSSCA Class 3A first team. Heimerl was a Ms. Soccer Finalist.
The Stars won their second state title in school history in 2022. They took down the No. 1-seeded Mahtomedi Zephyrs 2-1 in the Class 2A title game.
Goalkeeper Chloe Sandness was named to the MSHSSCA Class 2A first team. Addy Judson and Audrey Garton were named to the second team. Garton finished with 17 assists, good for seventh in the state, according to stats submitted to MNsoccerhub.com.
Minnetonka tennis
The Skippers completed their second straight Class 2A title in dominating fashion. They dispatched Mounds View in the quarterfinals 6-1, Elk River in the semifinals 7-0 and Rochester Mayo in the final 6-0.
Wayzata cross country
The Trojans finished with an impressive first-place score of 39 after runners finished with 1-6-8-10-14(19)(25).
Abbey Nechanicky finished first, 52.1 seconds ahead of second, and Teegan Anderson finished ninth.
The Stars completed a 27-2 record with a Class 2A title, their first after launching three years ago. Senior Cara Sajevic was named to the SBLive All-State first team after compiling 42 points and 35 goals this season. JuliAnna Gazdik was named to the second team, and Jenessa Gazdik was named to the third team.
Big Lake gymnastics
Big Lake took the Class 1A title with the vault, balance beam and floor exercise performances all scored over 37.
St. Michael-Albertville basketball
The Knights won the Class 4A title with a 71-70 win over Hopkins after falling to the Royals twice earlier in the season. They finished with a 29-3 record. Senior Tessa Johnson was named to the SBLive All-State first team.
The Lions won the Class 2A title and finished with a 30-2 season. Their two losses — Bishop Garrigan (IA) and Becker — came early in the season, but they won 29 straight games to finish the season. Freshman Maddyn Greenway was named to SBLive’s All -State first team.
The Rangers won the Class 1A state title. They finished with a 30-3 record, and junior Jordan Zubich was named to SBLive’s All-State third team. The Rangers rolled to a 52-21 win in the state championship game over BOLD.
Eden Valley Watkins/Kimbal track and field
Eden Valley Watkins/Kimbal scored 70 points, 21 more than second place Minnehaha Academy, to take the Class 1A title. It got first place in the 4x400 meter, and Brielle Kuechle won the long jump with a jump of 18-03.25
Minnetonka track and field
The Skippers scored 101 points to win the Class 3A. Claire Kohler won the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, and the Skippers won the 4x100 meter relay, among many other points scored.
Maple Grove golf
The Crimson took the Class 3A title by being 10 strokes better than second-place Wayzata.
The Irish finished the season with a 26-0 record and the Class 4A title. Nobody was better than the Irish, and Paige Zender and Jessa Snippes were named to the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association first team All-State.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Lacrosse
The Red Knights won the state title with an 11-10 win over Edina. They finished with a 17-2 record.
