Edina boys hockey: stories from the Hornets' 2024 state tournament run
The Edina Hornets won the 2024 MSHSL Class 2A boys hockey state championship over the Chanhassen Storm on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
It's the 14th title in Edina/Edina East school history. Here are the stories from Edina's run to another championship.
Class 2A State Championship
Edina 2, Chanhassen 1
QUOTE: "You get down one nothing to a very good team that’s kind of smothering you, it’s very difficult to get started," head coach Curt Giles said. "They just hung in there. They just stayed right with it."
Class 2A Semifinal
Edina 5, Grand Rapids 2
QUOTE: "You make your own breaks," Grand Rapids coach Grant Clafton said. "That's one thing you can't take away from [Edina] is they work for what they get. They play the game the right way."
Class 2A Quarterfinal
Edina 6, Elk River/Zimmerman 2
QUOTE: "I don't think we played extremely well in the first period," Giles said. "We had a tendency to turn pucks over, and that's how Elk River is designed to play, by turning the puck over. They're a good team in a transition."
Section 6A Final
Edina 4, Wayzata 1
QUOTE: "They came out flying," Edina senior goaltender Joe Bertram said. "They were ready for us. They got a quick one, but so be it. They’re gonna score, so it’s just about us fighting back, which we have all year."
