Joe Scarborough laced a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie, and Resurrection Catholic held on for a 5-3 win over Stringer to clinch the 1A South State Championship Saturday afternoon in Pascagoula.

The Eagles (27-5) await the winner of Pine Grove - Tupelo Christian Prep in the North State Championship. Pine Grove evened that series Saturday with a 16-11 win in Ripley.

Resurrection’s Max Askew picked up two hits Saturday — including a double — and scored twice. Luke Schnoor added an RBI single, walked and stole four bases. Jack Schnoor drove in another run.

Cole Tingle got the win on the mound, holding Stringer to three earned runs in five innings. Jack Schnoor got the six-out save, allowing two base-runners and striking out two hitters.

Resurrection beat Stringer 14-2 in the series opener Thursday night. The Red Devils (22-11) took a 7-1 lead into the sixth inning in Game Two Friday night and held on for an 8-7 win.
