Congratulations to Vardaman girls basketball small forward Makynlie Jones for being voted SBLive’s Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17-23!

The senior dropped a triple-double (19 points, 15 rebounds, 11 blocks) in a 61-44 win over Hamilton.

Jones received 40.01% of the vote, beating out Northwest Rankin's KK Morris who finished second with 16.78%. Madison Central's TerronMcIntyre finished third with 13.06% and Hazlehurst Justin Adams-Johnson finished fourth with 10.96%. There were over 105,000 votes tallied this week!

Jernae Ringgold, Callaway Girls Basketball: The freshman point guard scored 19 points, 5 steals, and 2 assists in a 58-62 district game loss against Forest Hill.

Carter Mullins, Florence Boys Basketball: Mullins scored 32 points and had several rebounds, steals and assists in a 76-66 win over Brookhaven.

Kendarius Smith, Murrah Boys Soccer: Smith scored five goals over a two-game win span against Jim Hill and Wingfield. The sophomore has 33 goals on the season, and is currently ranked No. 2 overall in the state for goals scored in the regular season.

Jahanna Wilson, Callaway Girls Basketball: The freshman recorded 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in a 58-62 district game loss against Forest Hill.

Justin Adams-Johnson, Hazlehurst Boys Basketball: Scored 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 steals in a 67-52 District 7 3A win over Port Gibson to help the Indians remain undefeated versus 3A competition. 

Akala Jacobs, Madison Central Girls Soccer: Jacobs recorded 2 goals in a 4-2 win over Madison. 

KK Morris, Northwest Rankin Girls Soccer: Scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Clinton.

Terron McIntyre, Madison Central Boys Soccer: Scored two goals and an assist in a 5-0 win over Clinton. 

Elise Jackson, Purvis Girls Basketball: Posted a season-high 23 points in a 51-26 Region 7-4A win over Lawrence County.

Jermarcus Riley-Davis, Canton Boys Basketball: Led the Tigers with 23 points to knock off Holmes County Central, 65-58, and clinch the top seed in 3-5A.

Jabarie Robinson, Raymond Boys Basketball: Finished with 29 points to lead the Rangers past Lanier, 79-69, in a key Region 6-4A contest.

Miriam Prince, Leake Academy Girls Basketball: Averaged 22 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block in 3 district wins this past week.

Josh Hubbard, Madison-Ridgeland Academy Boys Basketball: Led MRA with 32 points in a 73-45 win over Jackson Academy.
