The formula

For each sport, schools receive points if they make the playoffs, regardless of how they finish. The scoring for most sports (like football, volleyball, basketball etc.) goes like this:

  • Runner-up - 25 points
  • Semifinalist - 20 points
  • Quarterfinalist - 15 points
  • *Second round - 12.5 points
  • * First round - 10 points

(* - where it applies)

For sports where there is a state meet (cross country, archery, track and field, bowling, etc.) it’s the same formula but on a descending scale, like this:

  • Champion - 30 points
  • Runner-up - 25 points
  • 3rd place - 20 points
  • 4th place - 15 points
  • 5th place - 10 points
  • 6th place - 7.5 points
  • 7th place - 5 points
  • 8th place - 2.5 points
