JACKSON — The MHSAA football championships are headed back to Hattiesburg and M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of Southern Miss.
The MHSAA announced Tuesday it had reached an agreement to host its 2022 State Championship games for the second year in a row. The 2021 title games had originally been scheduled to be held at Jackson’s Veterans Memorial Stadium before Jackson State qualified for the SWAC Championship that same weekend.
“Our friends at USM never blinked when we called and gave less than 45 days of notice that we had a conflict at Veterans Memorial in Jackson,” MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves said. “As always, they eagerly welcomed us and did a fantastic job helping us showcase our student-athletes and coaches.”
The 2022 Championships are now scheduled for December 2 and December 3. The MHSAA estimates last year’s state championships attracted more than 40,000 fans over two days and created an estimated $2.3 million in revenues for businesses in the Hattiesburg area.
