Aubree Montgomery, Starkville gets revenge on Tupelo with 59-58 win
STARKVILLE — Aubree Montgomery scored 18 points and the Starkville Lady Jackets beat back a fierce Tupelo rally to edge the Golden Wave 59-58 Friday night.
Montgomery finished the first half with just five points, but the junior forward scored three buckets in the third quarter and sank five clutch free throws in the fourth to seal the win.
Zariyah Edwards added 14 points for the Jackets. With the win, Starkville (15-4) avenged a 63-54 loss to Tupelo Tuesday night and moved to into a tie with the Golden Wave atop the Region 1 standings at 3-1.
The loss was the first in four region games for Tupelo (18-2), which came in riding a modest six-game winning streak.
