TUPELO — Makhi Myles was at it again Friday night.
Starkville’s splendid forward scored 33 points to help the Yellowjackets get past Tupelo 66-62.
The win, combined with Tuesday’s 61-52 win over the Golden Wave, gave Starkville (19-4) the series sweep over Tupelo and cemented their spot atop the Region 1 standings with a perfect 4-0 record.
Myles was the star again, but Starkville got big contributions from Jonathan Baker, who finished with eight points, and Connor Rogers, who scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter. Robers knocked down five key free throws in the final minutes.
“Towards the end, coach told me to trust myself,” Rogers said. “So I just had to trust myself and make a play.”
Tupelo (12-7) fell to 2-2 in Region 1 games with the loss, tied with Oxford for second in the standings. The loss was the third for Tupelo against a ranked team this week, after the Golden Wave lost to MRA 75-69 at Rumble in the South Monday in Clinton.
London Fields had 18 points to lead Tupelo. Gavin Shannon had 16, and Dayveun Anderson chipped in 11.
