Walnut's Madi Kate Vuncannon voted 2A Miss Basketball

Vuncannon averaged better than 23 points a game for the Lady Wildcats

JACKSON — The MHSAA and Mississippi Association of Coaches announced Friday Walnut star Madi Kate Vuncannon as the winner of the inaugural Class 2A Miss Basketball Award.

Vuncannon, a senior guard for the Lady Wildcats (16-14), has been instrumental to her team's success, averaging 23.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.4 steals per game.

The senior will look to lead Walnut to a second-round win over Potts Camp Friday night. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals next week.

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards are sponsored by C-Spire. The winners were voted on by a panel of media members and coaches from every corner of the state.
