Starkville's Mahki Myles nabs Mr. Basketball honors for Class 6A

The Starkville forward was honored as the top player in Mississippi's highest classification

JACKSON — The MHSAA and Mississippi Association of coaches announced Tuesday that Starkville forward Makhi Myles has been voted as the inaugural winner of the Mr. Basketball Award for Class 6A.

Myles has averaged 19.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a game for Starkville (24-4), and has provided 3.1 blocks, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals.

He led Starkville to the top seed from Region 1, and after knocking off defending champion Clinton last week, Myles and the Jackets are set to play Horn Lake on Feb. 24 at Mississippi Valley State with a trip to "The Big House" on the line.

The award, designed to recognize the top player in each classification in Mississippi's public high schools, was announced last month after an agreement with title sponsor C-Spire.

The winners will be honored from March 2 to March 4 during the state championships at the Mississippi Coliseum. All 12 recipients will also be honored at an awards luncheon hosted by the MHSAA and streamed on the NFHS Network on March 7.
