Here are the candidates for SBLive's Missouri High School Athlete of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 1 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff.

Iris Alvarez, Savannah tennis

Alvarez bested Cameron’s Zuzanna Twarowska, 6-3, 6-4, to win the Midland Empire Conference championship for the second year in a row.

Cailyn Auffert, Maryville golf

Fired an 83 to win the Midland Empire Conference golf championship by seven strokes, avenging a second-place finish from the year prior.

Briggs Bartosh, Park Hill South football

Bartosh passed for 340 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 145 yards and two scores and added 27 return yards for a school-record single-game total of 512 all-purpose yards in a 42-35 loss to Park Hill. 

Autumn Bax, Blair Oaks volleyball

The Falcons won a 12th straight conference title with a sweep of Versailles this week. In the win, Bax had 15 kills, four aces and two blocks.

Austin Bergmann, Bishop DuBourg soccer

He scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Class 2 No. 1-ranked Bayless.

Carlie Cisneros, Liberty North volleyball

The Arizona commit surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark in a tournament on Oct. 1. The Eagles defeated St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.), St. Teresa’s Academy and Fayetteville (Ark.) in bracket play to win the Blue Springs South Tournament. She had 15 kills vs. Liberty and 25 vs. Park Hill South earlier in the week.

Maddy Colin, College Heights Christian volleyball

The junior setter had 44 assists, five aces and 11 digs in a match against Golden City, the same night she was honored for surpassing 1,000 career assists.

Paige Compardo, Cape Girardeau Notre Dame golf

The senior shot a 35 to help the Bulldogs win a quad meet on Sept. 29 by three strokes over Jackson, Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau Central.

Vincent Croney, Blue Springs soccer

The sophomore had two goals in a 3-2 win over Liberty in overtime, which included the game-ender in extra time.

Colton Ellington, Galena cross country

The senior set a new school record with a time of 16:43.65, on his way to winning the Texidor Challenge at the School of the Osage on Oct. 30.

Matthew Filinger, Monett swimming & diving

Picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle and then 100-yard butterfly during a quad meet in Webb City.

Rilynn Finley, Republic volleyball

In a three-game sweep over Joplin, the junior had 11 kills, two blocks and 11 digs.

Lydia Gabrielson, Chillicothe cross country

She ran a season-best 23:05.30 and the freshman won her first high school race at the Lafayette Invitational.

Ayden Harris, Lutheran St. Charles football

Harris, a junior linebacker, was credited with 23 tackles and three sacks – both career highs – in the Cougars' loss to Rock Bridge. He was an all-state selection a year ago as Lutheran St. Charles won the Missouri Class 2 title. 

Quenton Hughes, Neosho football

A junior quarterback, Hughes completed 33 of 39 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns in a 50-31 win over visiting Branson. 

Logan Jones, Carl Junction volleyball

Jones had 34 assists in a win over Republic in a Central Ozark Conference game, 3-1. The Arkansas commit was honored prior to the game for surpassing 3,000 assists in her career.

Rhodie Long, Woodland volleyball

The junior had 32 assists and 15 digs in a 3-1 win over Bloomfield on Sept. 29.

Maya McVey, Blue Springs South golf

The senior shot a 2-under 70 to take first place at the Wildcat Invitational on Sept. 29 in Blue Springs. She helped the Jaguars take first place as well with a team score of 316.

Ashley Mullen, Liberty volleyball

Had 29 assists in a 3-0 win against Lee’s Summit North and then had 49 assists and 12 digs in a 3-2 win over Liberty North this week. Mullen also reached the 3,000 assist mark in her decorated career.

Josey Roberts, Ozark golf

The freshman shot a 77 to win the Lady Eagle Invitational in Joplin, winning by seven shots at the event at Schifferdecker Golf Course.

Zyan Royal, Parkway North football

Had a banner day on the ground with 224 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns in a 40-35 come-from-behind victory over Parkway West.

Sami Scholtz, Rockwood Summit softball

Won a pitchers' duel against Parkway South’s Ashley Ware, 1-0, on Sept. 29. Scholtz gave up five hits and struck out 13 in the complete-game effort and drove in the winning run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Allison Scott, Kickapoo softball

Was a part of two no-hitters this week, first throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Bolivar, where she struck out 11. On Oct. 1, she threw the first inning with Riley Wilson throwing the final two in a 15-0 no-hitter over New Covenant Academy.

Adam Shipley, Francis Howell football

A junior quarterback, Shipley completed 12 of 16 passes for 306 yards and five touchdowns and added 51 yards rushing with another score in the first half of the Vikings' 56-21 win at Fort Zumwalt West.

Chloe Stenger, Glendale tennis

Picked up the singles title in the Ozark Conference Tournament and helped the Falcons claim their first OC title since 2010.

Ainsley Stubbs, Battle softball

Stubbs struck out 10 and picked up a complete game victory in a 2-1 win over Jefferson City on Sept. 27 on the road.

Madison Uptegrove, Father Tolton softball

Had a banner day at the plate in a 16-0 win over Jefferson City on Sept. 30. The Missouri commit was 3-for-3 with a triple, five RBIs and scored three times.

Cayden VonSande, Camdenton softball

She helped the Lakers pick up an Ozark Conference on Sept. 27, beating Kickapoo, 6-1. She gave up one run on four hits and struck out 13 in seven innings. Later in the week, she was a tough-luck loser in a 1-0 loss to Lee’s Summit North, where she struck out seven more.

Brooke Weimer, Macon softball

Struck out 14 and was a walk and error away from a perfect game, beating Highland, 8-0, in a Clarence Cannon Conference title. She also had an RBI double at the plate.

Riley Wilkinson, Marshall softball

The sophomore tossed a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Boonville on Sept. 26. She struck out 12 over seven innings and had first-pitch strikes to 20 batters.

Carley Winston, Kennett tennis

She knocked off Willow Springs’ No. 1 and No. 2 singles players in the semifinals and finals on the way to winning a district title and moving onto the individual sectionals.

Sam Wornson, Smithville football

He provided two tackles and had two fumble recoveries in a 49-0 victory over Raytown South for the defending Class 4 champions.
