How SBLive Missouri's Power 25 teams fared in Week 10: Joplin, Kickapoo upset in first round of districts

Here’s a look at the Week 10 results from the first round of district play for the teams in the SBLive Missouri Power 25. Winners advance to the district semifinals next week.

1. Christian Brothers College (9-1) defeated Vianney 57-6

CBC led 14-6 midway through the first quarter and then turned on the jets with 37 unanswered points in the first half to open a 51-6 halftime lead. Cole McKey tossed a pair of touchdowns to Dakotah Mayo and Jared Steward while Jeremiyah Love and Ralph Dixon both rushed for scores in the first quarter as the top-ranked Cadets had it rolling from the beginning. Nathan Carbone had a pick-six, and the defense also registered a safety.

2. Liberty North (10-0) defeated Blue Springs 37-7

All three phases put points on the board for the Eagles as Erik Henkel registered a scoop-and-score for the defense and the special teams generated a safety on a punt. Sam Van Dyne passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 33 yards and a score. Hayden Davison rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Xavier Horn hauled in five receptions for 111 yards and a TD.

3. Lee’s Summit North (9-1) defeated Lee’s Summit 35-17

The Broncos piled up 428 yards of total offense against the crosstown rival Tigers. Tanner Howes needed only six carries to rack up 44 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quincey Baker rushed for 67 yards and a score. Both Lee’s Summit North quarterbacks (Elijah Leonard and Maxxwell Ford) passed for more than 100 yards.

4. St. Mary’s (7-2) first-round bye

Last year’s Class 3 state champion, the Dragons received a first-round bye in the Class 4 District 2 tournament.

5. Francis Howell (9-0) first-round bye

Arguably the most dominant and consistent Class 5 team in the state this season, the Vikings earned a first-round bye in Class 5 District 3.

6. Carthage (8-1) first-round bye

By claiming the No. 1 seed the Class 5 District 6 tourney, Carthage has been on the top line and received a first-round bye each of the past seven seasons.

7. Cardinal Ritter (9-0) first-round bye

One of the top defensive teams in the state, the top-seeded Lions earned a first-round bye in the Class 3 District 2 tournament.

8. Kearney (9-0) first-round bye

Fresh off an undefeated season that no one saw coming, the Bulldogs earned the No. 1 seed in Class 4 District 8.

9. Nixa (9-1) defeated Ozark 35-7

Star running back Ramone Green Jr. accounted for all five touchdowns as the Eagles defeat rival Ozark for the second time in as many weeks (51-7 in Week 9). Nixa led 28-0 in the third quarter, but didn’t have it as easy as a week ago.

10. Troy Buchanan (8-2) defeated Hazelwood West 70-0

Brett Smith rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on his first two carries of the game, and the Trojans were off and running. Troy continued to pour it on and led 56-0 at halftime on the way to scoring 70 points for the second week in a row.

11. Smithville (9-1) defeated East (Kansas City) by forfeit

The Warriors received an unexpected free pass in their first-round district game and automatically advance to next week’s Class 4 District 8 semifinal game.

12. Blair Oaks (9-0) first-round bye

A team that has turned on the mercy-rule running clock against every opponent this season, the Falcons earned the No. 1 seed in Class 2 District 2 tournament.

13. Joplin (7-3) lost to Raymore-Peculiar 56-42

The Eagles fell behind early and had to play catchup most of the night. Hobbs Gooch passed for three touchdowns, and Quin Renfro rushed for two scores, but it wasn’t enough as the Joplin defense couldn’t get stops.

14. Camdenton (8-1) first-round bye

Despite a shocking Week 9 loss that spoiled a perfect regular season, Camdenton received the top seed in Class 5 District 5.

15. Lebanon (9-1) defeated Branson 40-0

Nathan Bartell and Jax Glendenning score two touchdowns each for the Yellowjackets as they post their sixth running-clock victory of the season. The defense records its third shutout of the year, highlighted by a scoop-and score touchdown by Jarrett Sing.

16. Valle Catholic (9-0) first-round bye

One of the top scoring squads in the state, the Warriors ran away with the No. 1 seed in the Class 3 District 1 tournament.

17. Holt (8-1) first-round bye

Last year’s Class 5 state runner-up begins its quest for another deep playoff run as the top seed in the Class 5 District 4 tournament.

18. Eureka (8-1) first-round bye

Despite a Week 7 upset against rival district foe Lafayette (Wildwood), the Wildcats landed on the top line of the Class 5 District 2 bracket.

19. MICDS (8-1) plays Chaminade on Saturday

For the second time this season, the Rams will take on Chaminade. MICDS won the Week 2 meeting between the teams, 42-19.

20. Lamar (8-1) first-round bye

The small-class powerhouse Tigers have rolled most of the season and ran away from the pack to claim the No. 1 seed in the Class 5 District 2 tourney.

21. Seckman (9-1) defeated St. Louis University High 50-41

The winningest season in program history goes on. Quarterback Cole Ruble put on another show, rushing for 323 yards and seven touchdowns for the Jaguars, who had to outlast SLUH in a game loaded with offensive fireworks.

22. Rock Bridge (8-2) defeated Hickman 42-0

For the second time in three weeks, the Bruins slap a shutout victory on their biggest rival. Rock Bridge, which defeated Hickman 49-0 two weeks ago, used a couple double pass touchdown plays to spark the offense in this one.

23. Hillsboro (8-1) first-round bye

This marks the second year in a row that the Hawks have received the No. 1 seed and first-round bye in the Class 4 District 1 tourney.

24. Kickapoo (7-3) lost to Lee’s Summit West 21-10

In one of the biggest upsets of the week, the No. 3 seed Chiefs fall to the No. 6 Titans. Tyrus Shurtz accounts for Kickapoo’s only touchdown of the night on a pick-six on the first play of the second quarter.

25. De Smet (5-5) defeated Ritenour 56-35

Quarterback Chris Cotton rushed for six touchdowns and also threw one, leading the Spartans to No. 5 seed-over-No. 4 seed upset. De Smet matched a single-game, season-high point total.
