Druw Jones was widely projected to be the top pick in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

He fell to No. 2, delighting the Arizona Diamondbacks.

But Arizona might need to wait a while to start seeing one of its prized prospects rise through the ranks of the Diamondbacks' minor league system.

Jones, the son of former major leaguer Andruw Jones, suffered a shoulder injury at batting practice Monday that's feared to be season-ending.

The No. 2 pick in the draft will meet with the Diamondbacks' physician on Wednesday to determine how serious the issue is.

Druw Jones, out of Wesleyan High School in Georgia, signed Saturday with Arizona for a slot-value bonus of $8.19 million. The deal briefly set the MLB record for a high school player, but No. 1 pick Jackson Holliday surpassed that shortly thereafter at $8.2 million.

Druw Jones won a state title with Wesleyan last season, and he chose to sign a professional contract over playing for Vanderbilt in college.

He put up some eye-popping stats to lift Wesleyan to the state championship, hitting .570 with a .675 on-base percentage.

Among his 65 hits were 13 homers, seven doubles and three triples. He scored 72 runs, drove in 39 and struck out just nine times while drawing 33 walks, and he stole 32 bases. He also went 10-1 on the mound
