What we're watching: Power 25 national high school football games of the week: (Nov. 17-19)

Here’s a closer look at a few of the country's elite and who they'll take on with an emphasis on how the result could influence our final Power 25 rankings

We released our final regular season SBLive Power 25 of 2022 three weeks ago — our weekly look at the top 25 high school football teams in the country. Once the football playoffs have wrapped up in every state, we will release our final end-of-season Power 25 rankings on Monday, Dec. 19.

This week, No. 1 Mater Dei will take on No. 4 St. John Bosco in the Division 1 Southern Section championship game in California from the Rose Bowl. Elsewhere, other states will be playing semifinal and championship games, which will help determine which fringe Power 25 teams make the cut for our final rankings in December.

Here’s a closer look at some of the country's elite and who they'll take on with an emphasis on how the result could influence our end-of-year Power 25 rankings.

No. 1 Mater Dei-Santa Ana, Calif. (12-0) vs. No. 4 St. John Bosco-Bellflower, Calif. (11-1) - Division 1 CIF Southern Section championship from Rose Bowl Stadium

The winner will be the No. 1 team in the country in December.

Cardinal Newman-West Palm Beach, Fla. (11-0) at No. 2 Chaminade-Madonna-Hollywood, Fla. (10-0) - 1M Regional final

Both teams are undefeated, but expect Chaminade-Madonna to roll showing why they're a top five team in the country.

Cardinal Gibbons-Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (11-1) at No. 6 American Heritage-Plantation, Fla. (11-1) - 2M regional final

When these teams met in the regular season, American Heritage won 21-2. Cardinal Gibbons is a very good team and will test the Patriots again.

Blanche Ely-Pompano Beach, Fla. (10-0) at No. 12 St. Thomas Aquinas-Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (11-0) - 3M regional final

Similarly to Chaminade-Madonna, St. Thomas Aquinas is playing an undefeated team, but they're still expected to win big.

Walton-Marietta, Ga. (10-2) vs. Carrollton-Ga. (12-0) - 7A playoffs quarterfinals, neutral site

Even with two losses, Walton can work its way into the Power 25 thanks to beating Buford, our end of the regular season No. 9 team, last week. A few more victories and Walton would have to be considered for our end-of-year rankings. A win for Carrollton keeps the Trojans firmly on our radar.

Archbishop Moeller-Cincinnati (13-1) vs. Springfield-Ohio (12-1) - Division 1 semifinal from Piqua Alexander Stadium

Whoever wins this will need to win next week in the state title game to warrant Power 25 consideration.

St. Edward-Lakewood, Ohio (13-1) vs. Lincoln-Gahanna, Ohio (13-1) - Division 1 semifinal from Mansfield Arlin Field

Expect St. Edward to win and then play a 'win and you're in the Power 25' state championship game next week.

Archbishop Hoban-Akron, Ohio (13-1) vs. Washington-Massillon, Ohio (12-1) - Division 2 semifinal from Akron InfoCision Stadium

Washington is the one team that's beaten St. Edward this season. If Washington wins two more games to claim a D2 state title in Ohio, it would be tough to argue against the Tigers' inclusion in the Power 25.

Edna Karr-New Orleans (7-3) at Baton Rouge Catholic (10-1) - Division 1 select playoffs

Edna Karr hasn't lost on the field (they had to forfeit three games due to playing an ineligible player). A state championship for the Cougars would warrant serious Power 25 consideration.

Center Grove-Greenwood, Ind. (11-2) vs. Carroll-Fort Wayne, Ind. (13-0) - 6A state championship from Lucas Oil Stadium

This game will determine Indiana's top team. The winner may make the final Power 25, but it's unlikely.

Kahuku-Hawaii (11-2) vs. Punahou-Honolulu, Hawaii (9-1) - Division I-OPEN championship from Mililani High School

Kahuku lacks a signature national win, but the Red Raiders have competed with some of the country's best teams. If Kahuku beats Punahou, they stay firmly on our Power 25 radar.

Roswell-Ga. (11-1) at Thomas County Central-Thomasville, Ga. (12-0) - 6A quarterfinals

A win keeps Thomas County Central on our end-of-year Power 25 radar, but it's state championship or bust for the Yellow Jackets from a Power 25 perspective.

Harlingen-Texas (12-0) at Dripping Springs-Texas (11-1) - 6A Division 2 playoffs

It's still relatively early in the Texas high school football playoffs. The winning team will keep its Power 25 hopes alive.

Byron Nelson-Trophy Club, Texas (11-1) vs. No. 11 Guyer-Denton, Texas (12-0) - 6A Division 2 playoff game from The Star

Guyer has had a fantastic season and it doesn't look like Jackson Arnold's team will slow down any time soon.

Chicago-Mount Carmel-Ill. (13-0) vs. Batavia-Ill. (10-3) - 7A championship, neutral site

East St. Louis is probably the best team in Illinois, but a state title win and undefeated season for Chicago-Mount Carmel would certainly warrant Power 25 consideration.

Prosper-Texas (11-1) vs. North Crowley-Fort Worth, Texas (12-0) - 6A Division 1 playoff game from Choctaw Stadium

It's still relatively early in the Texas high school football playoffs. The winning team will keep its Power 25 hopes alive, similarly to the Harlingen vs. Dripping Springs matchup in the Lone Star state.

Loyola-Wilmette, Ill. (12-1) vs. Lincoln-Way East-Frankfort, Ill. (13-0) - 8A championship from Champaign (Memorial Stadium)

An undefeated state championship season from Lincoln-Way East would lead to Power 25 consideration. East St. Louis is arguably the top team in Illinois high school football though. Lincoln-Way East is in a nearly identical situation to Chicago-Mount Carmel from a Power 25 perspective.

Belleville-Mich. (13-0) vs. Caldedonia-Mich. (12-1) - Division 1 championship from Ford Field

Belleville can keep its Power 25 hopes alive if the Tigers capture a championship to end the year undefeated.
