Trent Seaborn, 8th-grade quarterback, leads Thompson (Alabama) to fourth consecutive state championship

The Warriors defeated Auburn 49-24 behind a five-touchdown performance from a middler schooler at quarterback

Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) football just won its fourth consecutive state championship, and it did so with a middle schooler starting at the most important position on the field.

Powered by five touchdowns from eighth-grade quarterback Trent Seaborn, the Warriors cruised past Auburn 49-24 in the AHSAA Class 7A state championship on Wednesday.

Thompson and Seaborn (12-for-14, 207 yards and five touchdowns) got off to a hot start and never looked back, and as a result, they didn't need to attempt a single pass in the fourth quarter.

Seaborn's final pass of the night will go down as a candidate for national play of the week, thanks largely to the effort put forth by his receiver Korbyn Williams.

It was the fourth time Seaborn and Williams hooked up for a score on the night, with two touchdowns coming in each half.

Thompson opened its 2022 slate ranked No. 11 in the country but faltered with early-season losses to fellow Power 25 teams Buford (Georgia) and Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee).

From that point on, the Warriors went 11-1 on their way to bringing home a fourth consecutive state title.
