Welcome to SBLive's coverage of the 103rd CIF State Track and Field Championships at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on the campus of Buchanan High School in Clovis.

The field events are underway, and the running races for varsity athletes is at 6 p.m. Temperatures as of 5 p.m. were in the low 80s, comfortable with very little wind, meaning records could fall.

Check back throughout the night for live updates:

Pleasant breaks 100 record: Rodrick Pleasant got his record. The Serra-Gardena senior broke the state-meet record by winning the 100 meters in 10.20 seconds (see video at top of page and tweet below), followed by Jordan's Jordan Washington (10.30) and El Cerrito senior Robert Stitts (10.31). Pleasant is the state record-holder overall at 10.14. A football standout, Pleasant will play football and run track next season at the University of Oregon. COMPLETE RESULTS

Pleasant night, records historic double: The Oregon-bound football player and track star looked ultra determined and yet in complete command while taking the 200 handily in 20.67, over Granada Hills' Dijon Stanley (20.95), Clovis North's Nickolas Miller (21.02) and Jordan's Jordan Washington (21.06). Pleasant become the fourth male to double in the 100 and 200 two consecutive years, with the other three all occurring in the last 15 years. He joined most recently by Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks' Khalfani Muhammad (2012-13), Covina's Ramontay McClain (2010-11) and Cathedral-Los Angeles' Randall Carroll (2008-09). According to reports, Pleasant felt a twinge in his leg after the 100 and coaches wanted him to scratch in the 200. Pleasant convinced them to start the 200 and he sure finished it, coming off an impressive turn to win handily. COMPLETE RESULTS

"I'm excited about everything," Pleasant told dyestat.com. "To finish off my last high school meet like this is amazing. I'm happy to be here and happy to celebrate with my family."

Clayton wins girls 100, defending champ Redmond injured: Oaks Christian junior Niya Clayton scored a stunning upset in the girls 100, winning in a lifetime best of 11.45 seconds over surprise St. Ignatius-San Francisco freshman Ellie McCuskey-Hay (11.52) and defending state 200 champion Brazil Neal (11.55). The race was somewhat marred to an injury to defending champion, Carson senior Reign Redmond, who appeared to injury her hamstring and did not finish. She was the state leader in the event at 11.45. Others who place: Edison's Sanye Harris (11.73), Madison's Amirah Shaheed (11.73) and Serra's Mia Flowers (11.77). Carson's Christina Gray (11.83) and TaAhjah Fann, who helped give their team the 400 relay title, placed seventh and eighth. COMPLETE RESULTS

Engelhardt sets new state-meet record: Wow. Talk about living up to the hype. Ventura sophomore Sadie Engelhardt broke the CIF State meet record by winning the 1600 in 4 minutes, 33.45 seconds, breaking the mark of 4:33.82 set by Christine Babock, of Woodbridge, in the 2008 meet. Already the national leader in the event, Engelhardt improved her season best of 4:34.50 set at the Arcadia Invitational last month. It was just off her PR of 4:33.29 set at the 2022 Arcadia Invitational, the state overall record. On Saturday, it wasn't her plan, she said, but she felt great and went out in 65 seconds in the first lap and was at 2:13 after two. She was well on pace to crush her overall state record, but fell just short, however she still broke the state-meet record. It will be interesting to see what she has left when she tries to double in the 800 in about an hour. Scotts Valley's Ashlyn Boothby ran a sterling race to finish second in 4:39.45, a PR by more than six seconds. Other medalists were Del Norte's Hannah Riggins (4:41.42), Montgomery's Hanne Thomsen (4:43.63), Etiwanda's Janelle Avilez (4:45.83) and Buchanan's Elle Lomeli (4:46.82). COMPLETE RESULTS

Engelhardt doubles up: She had roughly two hours to rest and that's all she needed. One of the (already) decorated runners in the country, Engelhardt pulled off a truly difficult double by also taking the 800. She finished in 2:07.22, passing defending champion MacKenzie Browne, of JW North, in the final 80 meters. Brown, with the nation's top mark of 2:03.07 set at Arcadia last month, finished in 2:08.06. Others to receive medals: Poway's Tessa Buswell (2:08.53), JSerra's Georgia Jeanneret (2:09.84), Newport Harbor's Keaton Robar (2:09.88) and Monte Vista-Danville's Cate Peters (2:10.03). COMPLETE RESULTS

Engelhardt became just the second female to win both the 1600 and 800 at the state meet and first since 1975 when Pleasant Hill's Kathy Costello did it in times of 4:35.5 and 2:09.2.

"I wanted a little revenge from last year when I was runner-up in the (800)," Engelhardt said. "That was a huge goal (to double up) this season. I trained very hard earlier in the season and everything is showing now. It's very exciting. I'm very stoked for the future and post season races."

Granada Hills charter boys claim 400 relay gold: Granada Hills Charter's quest for a first team championship got off to a flying start, winning the 400 relay, as expected, in a brilliant time of 40.39, but just off their season best of 40.28 set at Arcadia. The Highlanders were just off the state-meet record of 40.24. Acalanes-Lafayette, a school with little track and field background, especially in sprints, continued its remarkable season by placing second in school record of 40.96, followed by Oaks Christian (41.02), Long Beach Poly (41.22), De La Salle (41.28) and Simi Valley (41.65). Stanley completes mission, wins 400 going away: Dijon Stanley followed up his leg on the winning 400 relay team by taking the open 400 in a time of 45.77, bettering his best mark of 45.92, which ranked third in the nation and first in California. Stanley has two more races and is the No. 1 seed (from Friday's trials) in the 200. He'll also run a leg on the 1600 relay team in hopes of bringing home the LA City power a team title. Long Beach Poly junior Xai Ricks was second in 46.06 - his previous best was 46.50 — followed by Lincoln-Los Angeles' Jaden Rattay (47.14), Moreau Catholic's Bryce Thomas (47.53), Oaks Christian's Chase Hansen (47.65) and Vanden's Brayden Chavez (48.04). COMPLETE RESULTS

Carson girls blaze: And we're off with the running races. The Carson girls 4x100 team anchored by Redmond, win in 45.61 over defending champion Serra-Gardena (46.15). No surprise here as TaHhjah Fan and Christina Gray are other 100 finalists. The mark was off Carson's season best of 45.28. Others to earn medals: Long Beach Wilson, Lakewood, Oaks Christian and Quartz Hill. They were followed by Chino Hills and Long Beach Wilson. Seven of the nine finalists from the Southern Section. Impressive. COMPLETE RESULTS.

Dybdahl wins remarkable 1600 boys: Santa Barbara's Andreas Dybdal (4:08.64) won a remarkably close 1600 boys final over Torrey Pines' Ryan Thomas (4:08.82) and Anthony Fast Horse (4:08.84), of Ventura. Dybdal took the pace and held on with a very strong finish from Fast Horse. COMPLETE RESULTS

Race of the day: As tight as the 1600 boys race was, the race of the day no doubt with the boys 300 hurdles, where one of the favorites Davis Davis-Lyric, who earlier won the 110 hurdles, fell late in the race. That opened it up for the field. At the line, Jordan's Darryll Stevens won by two-thousands of a second over Monrovia's Devin Paton 37.432 to 34.435. Third-place Cayden Roberson, of Roosevelt, was a flash behind that at 37.437.

"I was ranked No. 1 after the prelims and I told myself I have to be No. 1 today," Stevens told dyestat. "This means a lot. Not many people from Long Beach Jordan can say they walked away as a state champion so it feels good to be one of the first to be able to claim that."

Kori Fields upends SJS rivals, 100 hurdles field: Kori Fields won the one that mattered most. The St. Mary's-Stockton senior captured the 100 hurdles state title in a wind-aided 13.79 seconds, just edging Sac-Joaquin Section rival Giselle Kirchner (13.85), of Rocklin, Orange Vista's Kailah McKenzie (13.89) and San Diego's Anisa Bowen-Fontenot (13.89). Another SJS standout, Yvette Harris, of Lincoln-Stockton, won the section title and has the state's leading time of 13.53 (wind-aided), and finished fifth in 14.08 and Campolindo senior Mari Testa took the last medal in sixth at 14.11. COMPLETE RESULTS

See repeats, doubles; JSerra, Stafford soar: Brendon See, a senior at JSerra Catholic, repeated as discus champion with a mark of 196 feet, 4 inches. He is one of 10 athletes who entered the meet with a chance to repeat. See edged a pair of local Central Section rivals, Clovis North's McKay Madsen (188-1) and Buchanan's Derek Smith (184-4). See COMPLETE RESULTS. See later won the shot put as well with a mark of 62-9.50 to join Pleasant as the only male double winners, leading the Lions to a second-place team finish. A victory by Jake Stafford in the high jump (6-7) gave JSerra another 10 points and he placed sixth in the discus (182-2). Not many athletes of scored points in those two events in the same meet.

Stafford's PR in the high jump was only 6-3 less than a month ago, he said, but winning Southern Section Masters at 6-8 gave him great confidence. He spent most of the year just focused on discus. "It's been a really surprising and fun couple weeks," Stafford told dyestat. "Improving from 6-3 to 6-8 was crazy. Winning at state is great."

Udeh wins long jump, medals in four events: De La Salle senior Chukwunonso Udeh was voted his school Athlete of the Year earlier this month, before the spring season was even done. Evidently his classmates and teachers knew something. The lanky 6-5 standout not only won the long jump with a mark of 23-9.75, but he also took fifth in the 110 hurdles (14.29 seconds) and ran a leg on De La Salle's fifth-place 400 relay team which ran a season best 41.28. Late in the meet, he also tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-4.

Udeh's title in the long jump was particularly satisfying considering he just started competing at the event on April 1 at the West Coast Relays, also at Buchanan. On that day, he went 22-2, so a 19-inch improvement was more than satisfying.

"I was really proud of my long jump," Udeh told dyestat.com. "Hard work and determination and coaches were able to take that 22-2 and to 23-9 so I'm really happy with my long jump performance."

He was also the only senior along with two freshmen and a sophomore on the 4x100 relay. In the hurdles, he went from running 15.0 earlier in the month to finishing fifth in the state. Udeh will continue his track career at Cal.

Upland wins eighth: It was great news for Upland fans watching senior Davis Davis-Lyric win the program's eighth state hurdles title, taking the 110s in 13.83 over Mater Dei's Logan Lyght (13.95) and Pleasant Grove's Stephen Dahdouh (14.21). Crushing news, however a couple hours later when Davis-Lyric fell over a hurdle in the 300s which he figured to compete for title. Jordan's Darryll Stevens won that race in 37.44. COMPLETE RESULTS FOR 300 HURDLES; RESULTS FOR 110 HURDLES

One girl, three medals: Kailah McKenzie, of Orange Vista, took home three medals by placing third in the 100 hurdles (13.89), fifth in the long jump (19-9.50) and eighth in the high jump (5-4). "I'm proud of myself, I'm happy." Didn't think I'd place in high jump. I think I managed it all pretty well. It feels really good. I can't wait for my summer to start."

On girls, four medals: McKenzie's top rival was Meagan Humphries, of Castaic, who took home four medals by placing second in the triple jump (40-6.25), second in the long jump (20-3.25), fourth in the high jump (5-8) and fifth in the 200 (24.02). She placed third place in the meet all by herself with 25 points. Known as a jumper most of her career, she shocked most by placing in the state 200 finals. Only a junior, Humphries told Runners Space, she'll be going for even more points a senior.

"I'm very satisfied with my performance," she said. "It was a little messy in the high jump. I expected to do a little better. But overall, I'm happy with how the day went."

Local girl makes good: Clovis High School's own Sydnie Vanek did her community proud, winning the girls long jump with a lifetime best of 20 feet, 7.75 inches to edge Southern Section champion Meagan Humphries of Castaic (20-3.25). Vanek bettered her best by 1/4-of an inch. King's Alyssa Hope finished third (20-1.25) followed by  Long Beach Wilson's Loren Webster (19-10.50), Orange Vista's Kailah McKenzie (19-9.50) and St. Ignatius freshman Ellie McCuskey-Hay (19-7.25). Only Webster's mark was wind-aided. McCuskey-Hay was coming off a second-place finish in the 100. COMPLETE RESULTS

Local boy makes good: Buchanan senior Hilton Green, vaulting on his own track, won the boys pole vault with a mark of 16-6, edging Redondo's Dylan Curtis (16-2) and Turlock's Maxwell McFarlane (16-2). Green came into the meet as the favorite with a best of 17-1, making him just one of eight in the country to clear at least 17 feet. COMPLETE RESULTS

What a finish — two of them: Culver City's girls and Long Beach Poly's boys finished off the 103rd meet with two sterling 1600 relay wins. Culver City was well back of Long Beach Wilson, but a remarkable anchor leg by 200 winner Joelle Trepagnier carried the Centaurs to a win in 3:41.08, bettering their top mark set last week at the Southern Section Masters. Wilson finished second in 3:49.49, followed by JW North (3:45.90), Chino Hills (3:46.92), Calabasas (3:47.34) and Clovis North (3:49.34). COMPLETE GIRLS RESULTS. Poly's boys simply outclassed the field running a state season-best 3:12.99, followed by Los Gatos (3:13.97), which broke a Central Coast Section record, Granada Hills (3:15.14), Cathedral (3:15.59), Clovis (3:17.19) and Westlake (3:18.89). COMPLETE BOYS RESULTS

Team champions: Despite falling short both in the final event, Granada Hills Charter boys and Long Beach Wilson girls emerged team champions.

Led largely by Stanley, Granada Hills Charter won its first state title with 36 points over JSerra (33), Buchanan (30), Long Beach Poly (28) and Long Beach Jordan (23). Thanks to Udeh, De La Salle finished sixth (21). Granada Hills became the sixth LA City school to win a state meet, the last being Dorsey in 2005.

Long Beach Wilson's girls won more handily with 44 points to 31 for Culver City followed by Castaic (25), Serra-Gardena (25) and Oaks Christian (24). COMPLETE TEAM SCORES

Stanley told dyestat.com after losing to Pleasant in the 200 he wasn't disappointed at all. "Everyone wants to win," he said. "Everyone is a competitor. It's a competitive sport. Not coming in first place is a big thing, but boo hoo. It is what it is. I ran my hardest. Rodrick got the best of me. He's one of the greatest to ever do it. I'll take it on the chin and take second place. I ran my fastest. He ran his fastest. Great job Rodrick Pleasant.

"I left it all out there in the 400. Last year I finished third. I always want to run faster. At this meet particularly, I'm just looking for a win."

He got it in the 400, 400 relay and the team state title.
