National high school top stars, best girls performances of the week (June 12-18)

Sierra Albright, Bald Eagle Area (Pennsylvania)

Albright whirled a three-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 4-0 Class 2A semifinal victory over Chambersburg.

Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Lake Oswego (Oregon)

Brahe-Pedersen placed first in the 100 (11.11) and the 200 (22.43) at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. The junior’s 200 time, a new Oregon state record, ranks second nationally this year.

JaMeesia Ford, Jack Britt (North Carolina)

Ford, a South Carolina signee, took gold in the 400 at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a time of 52.60. The senior’s time ranks sixth in the country this spring.

Elizabeth Gaisior, Juniata (Pennsylvania)

Gaisior fired a one-hitter with 20 strikeouts in a 6-0 Class 3A semifinal win over Jamestown. The junior Fordham commit also had two hits at the plate.

Akala Garrett, Albemarle (North Carolina)

Garrett shattered her PR in the 100 hurdles at the Brooks PR Invitational, winning with a nation-leading time of 13.13. The senior also took first in the 100 hurdles (13.37) and 400 hurdles (57.51) at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

JaiCieonna Gero-Holt, Emerald Ridge (Washington)

Gero-Holt won the heptathlon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with 5,481 points. The sophomore’s performance included a high jump of 6-0.5, the top mark in the country this season.

Layla Giordano, Old Tappan (New Jersey)

Giordano won the discus competition at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor with a top throw of 170-4, the third-best mark in New Jersey state history.

Jane Hedengren, Timpview (Utah)

Hedengren placed first in the mile race at the Brooks PR Invitational with a nation-leading time of 4:35.69. Later in the week, she set a sophomore national record in the two-mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a winning time of 9:54.38.

Kyeese Hollands, Central Catholic (Oregon)

Hollands, a Texas Tech signee, set a new Oregon state record in the javelin at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a throw of 164-5.

Allison Ince, Normal Community (Illinois)

Ince earned a gold medal in the 800 at the Brooks PR Invitational with a time of 2:04.82, just off her PR of 2:03.17 set in April at the Arcadia Invitational. The junior holds the second-fastest 800 time in the country this season.

Shawnti Jackson, South Granville (North Carolina)

Jackson won the 100 at the Brooks PR Invitational with a time of 11 seconds, just off her national record of 10.89 set earlier this month at the Music City Track Carnival. Jackson is an Arkansas signee.

Gracelyn Leiseth, Hamlin (South Dakota)

Leiseth’s dominant senior season continued at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a gold in the shot put. The Florida signee finished with a top throw of 52-1.5, the third-best mark nationally this year.

Braleigh Miller, Gaylord (Michigan)

Miller tied an MHSAA Finals record with four hits as Gaylord defeated Vicksburg, 8-3, in the Division 2 state championship game.

Paityn Noe, Ballard (Iowa)

Noe set a new Iowa state record in the 5,000 with a winning time of 16:04.69 at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. The senior owns the fastest 5,000 time in the country this season.

Kylie Swierkos, Hartland (Michigan)

Swierkos tossed a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the Division I state championship game. Hartland cruised to a 9-1 victory over Brownstown Woodhaven.

Iyanna Webb, Harlan (Texas)

Webb won the triple jump competition at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor with a jump of 41-8.5, a top-10 national mark this season.
