Elk Creek runner Cicely Gugelman earns SBLive Nebraska Athlete of the Week honors
The freshman won her second straight meet September 20
Elm Creek freshman Cicely Gugelman has begun her varsity cross country career with a bang and now has another honor to her credit.
Gugelman won back-to-back meets and after her triumph on Sept. 20 at a meet in Franklin, she has been voted the SBLive Nebrasaka Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-25. She collected 10,894 votes.
Lakeview softball player Cali Bentz was second with 40% (8,768 votes) of the total.
Gugelman set a personal best for a win at Alma. She then took that momentum to a Sept. 20 meet in Franklin and hit the line first again.
Gugelman’s start to her varsity career has been anything but an adjustment. She started with a runner-up finish in her first varsity competition, was sixth in Gibbon and now has back-to-back gold medals.
