The Office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom released a statement on youth sports to KCRA Sacramento reporter Michelle Dapper on Thursday after the "Let Them Play CA" group held a rally at the state capitol.

"We are working on updates to youth sports guidance and hope to share details in the next two weeks," part of the statement reads.

The statement comes after "Let Them Play CA" delivered more than 12,000 letters from athletes across California to politicians at the state capitol. Torrey Pines head football coach Ron Gladnick and several athletes addressed the crowd and urged state leaders to allow youth sports to resume.

The response from the Governor's office has increased the frustration levels for students and parents throughout the state who were expecting an announcement from the state in the coming days.

Speaking to reporters earlier in the week, Gov. Newsom said that "in the next number of days" he hoped to address the specific answer of when youth sports can return. Washington and Oregon have recently announced their return to football and are expected to begin games in the next two weeks.
