Southern California high school football: Top stars, best performances in Week 5 of 2021 season

Several teams in SBLive’s Southern Section Top 25 rankings had big wins led by No. 2 Mater Dei taking down No. 13 Santa Margarita 49-13 and No. 16 Vista Murrieta defeating Murrieta Valley, 51-41.

After five weeks of the California 2020-21 high school football season, the list of standout performances by Southern California stars continues to grow.

Several teams in SBLive’s Southern Section Top 25 rankings had big wins led by No. 2 Mater Dei taking down No. 13 Santa Margarita 49-13 and No. 16 Vista Murrieta defeating Murrieta Valley, 51-41.

Here’s a quick look at some of the top stars and individual performances from the fifth week of games.

TOP SOCAL FOOTBALL STARS IN WEEK 5

Mekhi Fox, Pasadena WR: Fox caught five passes for 116 yards on Thursday night and had four receiving touchdowns in the win over Crescenta Valley.

Arlis Boardingham, Birmingham WR: Boardingham caught two passes for 55 yards and a touchdown and also returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown against Canoga Park.

Damien Montoya, Alta Loma LB: Montoya had five tackles, a forced fumble, and two blocked field goals in the win over Los Osos.

Kadin Semonza, Mission Viejo QB: Semonza was efficient on Friday, completing 21 of 24 passes for 329 yards and five touchdowns in the 49-14 win over San Juan Hills.

Mikey Matthews, Mission Viejo WR: Matthews caught eight passes from Semonza on Friday, finishing with 118 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Kyle Crum, Norco QB: Crum was 15 of 21 passing for 284 yards and three touchdowns in Thursday's win over Riverside King. He also added a rushing touchdown in the 42-0 victory.

Tiger Bachmeier, Murrieta Valley WR: Bachmeier had ten catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns against Vista Murrieta.

Sam Vaulton, Venice QB: Vaulton had 224 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in his debut for the Gondoliers.

Manny Robert, Hillcrest RB: Robert had over 100 yards rushing and receiving on Thursday. He finished with 259 total yards and three total touchdowns against Ramona.

Dominic Garcia, Norte Vista QB: Garcia was five of seven passing on Friday night, but completed all five passes for touchdowns. He finished with 190 passing yards.

Trevor Lagarde, North Torrance QB: Lagarde had a huge outing on Friday, completing 14 of 23 passes for 296 yards and eight touchdowns.

Daniel Larkins, Hart DB: Larkins had five tackles and two interceptions in Friday's win over Canyon.

Jack Fairchild, Crean Lutheran WR: Fairchild caught five passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns against Valencia on Friday.

Tyler Moses, Huntington Beach DB: Moses had seven tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble against Newport Harbor on Friday.

Jawan Howard, Silverado RB: Howard rushed for 173 yards, averaging six yards per carry, and had a touchdown in Friday's loss to Hesperia.

Elijah Wash, Rancho Cucamonga WR/DB: Wash caught five passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns and also had an interception in the win over Chino Hills.

Sweetwater rushing attack: The Red Devils ran for 421 yards against San Ysidro, averaging over nine yards per carry. Mario Villa, Carlos Hopper, and Javier Sanchez each ran for over 100 yards.

Isiah King, Montgomery DB/WR: King caught two touchdown passes and had two interceptions against Chula Vista on Friday.

Jaheem Williams, Montgomery DB: Williams caught a 29-yard touchdown against Chula Vista and returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns against the Spartans.

Treyton White, Eastlake DL/RB: White rushed for a touchdown against Mater Dei Catholic and also had seven tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.

Matt Keeley, Granite Hills DB: Keeley caught a 52-yard pass and also had 12 tackles and an interception win Friday's win over Helix.

Caleb Vanta, Mira Mesa WR: Vanta had a huge night against Madison, catching nine passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns.

Major Givens, Steele Canyon RB: The sophomore carried a heavy load against Grossmont, rushing 36 times for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Adrien Chargualaf, Steele Canyon DB: Chargualaf had ten tackles, a sack, and an interception against Grossmont on Friday.

Stephen Britton, Santa Fe Christian RB: Britton recorded his third game of over 200 yards rushing and had three touchdowns against Mt. Miguel.

Jason Oliveira, Patrick Henry RB: Oliveira had 228 rushing yards, averaging over 11 yards per carry, and had three rushing touchdowns against Crawford.

Clash Orsborn, Mission Bay QB: Orsborn threw for 349 yards and had three passing touchdowns to help the Buccaneers record their first win of the season.

Carson Taumoepeau, Mt. Carmel QB: Taumoepeau had 258 passing yards and two touchdowns and showed his rushing ability with 103 yards on the ground and an additional touchdown.
