Senior Dylan Gebbia and sophomore Anthony Wolter are in a competition. Gebbia started the majority of games for Alemany a year ago and Wolter played in Alemany's spring 2021 finale, a 25-24 win over Serra.

"Those guys continue to compete and they're both doing well," Clausen said. "We're going to play the best guy. Ideally we'd like to play the best guy, but if we have to go with two we will."

The best case scenario for Alemany is that they win the Mission League and then somehow slip into the Division 2 playoffs in the Southern Section. In that scenario, the Warriors would win the league and then have a shot at a Section title because they'd avoid Mater Dei or St. John Bosco in the Division 1 playoffs.

Alemany won't finish any lower than third place in the Mission League -- on paper, they should win it. Taking the Mission League crown would put the Warriors right on the Division 1/Division 2 playoff line in the Southern Section. How the Warriors do in their non-league games will affect which playoff division they're in. Alemany probably won't beat St. John Bosco, but after that, 9-1 is a possibility with 8-2 or 7-3 probably being more likely.

"This is our group that was all freshmen when we got to Alemany. Offensive line is going to be our strength and I'm excited about our defense. We're hoping to compete with some of the premier schools and to do that it starts up front. We obviously went out and scheduled really good non-league teams to help us gauge where we're at. I'm excited for the group. I'm excited to have the group returning and for the new kids we've added."

"We feel like on offense we can run the ball and then defensively stop the run and control the line of scrimmage. Lone Peak, St. John Bosco and Mission Viejo will all help us to see where we're at up front. You can always have skill, but unless you can block and stop the run that doesn't matter."

"We want to use camp to get more consistent on offense. We had our lowest scoring average by far in the spring in terms of places I've coached. We were not very good offensively in the spring. We need to get better. On defense, we have a lot of talented kids -- I want us to make more plays, get more turnovers."

"Our goal is to compete and do the best we can. We have a ton of kids signing in 2022 and that's been my ultimate goal, helping kids in the classroom and then if they have goals in football beyond that. As far as the season goes, I want us to compete, have fun and play to our potential. Hopefully in year four we can go out and compete against those top level programs."
