6A boys second round
Summit 5, Franklin 0
Alex Grignon scored two goals, and the top-seeded Storm (14-0-1) blew open a close game midway through the second half with a three-goal barrage in a 90-second span to avenge their loss to the Lightning in the 2019 state championship match.
Summit, ranked No. 21 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches, has reached the past two state finals. It will face No. 8 Lakeridge, a 4-0 winner over Forest Grove, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
“Summit lived up to its billing,” said Lightning assistant Brian Baxter.
Nathan DePerro opened the scoring with a breakaway goal midway through the first half. The Storm doubled their lead with one second before halftime, pouncing on a missed clearance.
The Lightning had a chance to pull a goal back early in the second half, but a Summit defender cleared the ball off the line with an acrobatic bicycle kick.
South Eugene 2, West Salem 1
Whit Schatz’s penalty kick with less than two minutes left in regulation snapped a 1-1 tie, lifting the third-seeded Axe (14-2) to the home win over the Titans.
Schatz also assisted on Owen Whitney’s goal off a sixth-minute corner kick. The Axe will play host to No. 6 seed West Linn, which ousted Sunset 2-0, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
South Eugene outshot West Salem 21-4, but the Titans (8-7-1) hung tough, clearing two shots off the line before tying the score in the 27th minute. The Axe had several good chances in the second half but couldn’t break the tie until a handball decision in the 79th minute led to Schatz’s heroics.
Cleveland 4, South Salem 2
For the second postseason in a row, the 13th-seeded Warriors (10-4-2) of Southeast Portland went on the road to stun a higher seed in the second round and reach the quarterfinals.
Four players scored for Cleveland, with Solomon Barnett opening the scoring with about 10 minutes left in the first half.
Seb Buscaglia’s 35-yard blast deflected off the post and into the net to make it 2-0, and he set up Stephen Treat’s goal for a 3-0 lead.
After the Saxons (10-3-3) scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half, Elijah Edelman’s free kick with 10 minutes remaining sealed the win. Julian Rivas Delgado scored a consolation goal for South Salem with five minutes to play.
Grant 2, Glencoe 1
Sawyer Lasof scored the go-ahead goal with 15:50 remaining, lifting the fifth-seeded Generals (13-2-2) to the win over the Crimson Tide at Delta Park’s Strasser Field.
The PIL champions will play host to crosstown rival Cleveland in Saturday’s quarterfinals. The teams played to a scoreless draw in their league opener.
Jonny Bazan tied the score at 1-1 early in the second half for Glencoe.
Lincoln 3, Mountainside 2
Senior Max Edwards’ 13th goal of the season in the 58th minute secured the seventh-seeded Cardinals’ victory at Ida B. Wells High School.
Junior Henry Reuland opened the scoring for Lincoln (12-3-2) in the third minute with his sixth goal of the season. Freshman Max Eisenberg, who didn’t score during the regular season, added his second goal of the playoffs two minutes into the second half.
Lincoln keeper Reece Fisher made four saves in the victory, while coach Pablo Dipascuale also praised the play of midfielder Oliver Stone and forwards Elijah McLeod-Ali and Alden Russell in helping the Cardinals dispatch the Mavericks (12-4).
“We managed to control the tempo of the match and capitalize on set pieces against a strong, well-coached and organized Mountainside squad,” Dipascuale said.
Jesuit 3, McKay 0
The second-seeded Crusaders (13-3), ranked No. 9 in Region VIII by United Soccer Coaches, advanced to the quarterfinals for the 13th consecutive postseason with a home victory over the Royal Scots. Jesuit will play host to Lincoln in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
The Crusaders opened the scoring in the first half when Luc Insley scored off a throw-in by Finn Deem-Ranzetta. In the second half, Spencer Carle made it 2-0 with a goal on the counterattack via a pass from Omar Barajas, and Drew Pedersen closed the scoring, converting off a cross by Dominic Hoar-Weiler.
Zak Simmons and Elliot Parelius combined in goal for the shutout.

5A boys first round
La Salle Prep 5, The Dalles/Dufur 0
The top-seeded Falcons (13-1-1), ranked No. 15 in Region VIII by United Soccer Coaches, continued their defense of their state title by shutting out the Riverhawks, not allowing the visitors a shot on goal.
Mizael Harris had a first-half hat trick for La Salle Prep, and Johannes Gikas capped the scoring two minutes into the second half with his second goal of the night.
Harris headed in a rebound off a Quentin Strange shot off the crossbar seven minutes into the game. A minute later, he headed in a cross from Luke Warner, and Gikas made it 3-0 a minute later, finding himself open in the goalmouth to finish off a combination of passes.
Harris has 16 goals and 15 assists this season, and Gikas has nine goals and eight assists for the Falcons, who will play host to Silverton in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Silverton 3, Ridgeview 0
Junior Carlos Flores reached double figures with his 10th goal of the season to open the scoring for the eighth-seeded Foxes (8-2-5), and seniors Isaac Lawson and Bjorn Domst also scored in their home win over the Ravens (9-5-2).
Senior goalkeeper Brady Mykisen made seven saves, including a couple critical saves off set pieces to preserve the shutout.
Coach Marty Limbird praised the effort of seniors Solomon Moore, a first-team all-Mid-Willamette selection, and outside back Victor Moore on the back line.
“Solomon has been a beast for us all season,” Limbird said. “They held it down in the back and kept the game away from our goal.”
Willamette 6, Parkrose 2
Ariel Carlos De Dios Cruz scored five goals for the second-seeded Wolverines (14-1) in the program’s first state playoff victory, downing No. 15 Parkrose at home.
Willamette scored twice in the first eight minutes, but the Broncos kept it close with a goal midway through the first half. The Wolverines quickly answered, then pulled away in the second half.
Victor Castaneda also scored for Willamette, and Papa Yasane had three assists.
“Our team did a great job of sharing the ball and winning the 50/50 balls,” Willamette coach Jason Burke said.
Woodburn 2, Hood River Valley 0
Jose Guzman scored in the first half for the Bulldogs, and Christopher Amezcua secured the road victory with a goal in the second half.
Four-time reigning champion Woodburn (9-5), which moved up to 5A after winning back-to-back 4A titles in 2018-19, entered the playoffs as a No. 10 seed. It will next face Willamette on Saturday in Eugene.
“The boys worked super hard to try to control the tempo of the game,” coach Leroy Sanchez said. “We were able to secure a shutout with outstanding play from our backline, and our keeper, Jonathan Lopez, had a few saves to keep Hood River Valley from scoring.”
Ashland 3, South Albany 0
Lucas Poareo Davidson opened the scoring in the 25th minute by curling a ball to the top-left corner, and senior Davidson Graham scored twice in the final two minutes of the half to help lead the sixth-seeded Grizzlies (9-3-2) to the home win.
Graham has 17 goals and five assists this season. Davidson’s goal was his third of the season.
Senior keeper Mina Schepmann made five saves for his sixth shutout of the season.
“We stepped up to win a big game against a very skillful South Albany team,” coach Abdiaziz Guled said. “Our back defense with the leadership of senior captain Cedric Huston did a great job keeping strikers out of our danger zone.”
Corvallis 5, Putnam 3
Sophomore Ryan John scored twice in the first 24 minutes as the third-seeded Spartans (10-3-2) built a 4-1 lead before holding on to defeat the visiting Kingsmen.
Putnam got within 4-3 when Evian Creamer scored just after the teams returned from a lightning delay, but Vance John scored his second goal of the night in the final two minutes to seal the victory.
Corvallis will play host to Ashland in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Wilsonville 3, Eagle Point 0
Yazli Nazarav opened the scoring off a corner kick by Dylan Lee in the 36th minute, and Toshi Kondo and Yaseen Mubashir tacked on second-half goals to lead the fifth-seeded Wildcats (9-4-2) to the home victory.
Wildcats keeper Chase Nelson made two big saves in the second half to turn aside promising Eagle Point scoring chances and preserve the shutout.
Wilsonville will travel to No. 4 North Salem, a 2-1 overtime winner over Springfield, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

4A boys first round
Phoenix 7, La Grande 0
Victor Martinez scored four goals to give him 13 in his past four games, and the third-seeded Pirates (13-2) rolled to the home victory.
Martinez scored in the 11th, 22nd, 47th and 62nd minutes to reach 25 goals for the season and 75 for his career.
Jorge Mejia added two goals and two assists, and Jenner Seldon also scored for Phoenix, while Danny Palamino had two assists. Tucker Speaks made one save for the shutout.
North Marion 3, Sisters 2
Aden Carrillo scored goals in the 38th and 44th minutes, and Leo Mercado nailed a penalty kick in the 58th minute to lift the sixth-seeded Huskies (10-2-3) to victory at Canby High School.
Carillo has nine goals and four assists for North Marion, which will travel to Phoenix for Saturday’s quarterfinals.
McLoughlin 2, Cottage Grove 0
Angel Castillo scored on a penalty kick seven minutes after halftime and added a second goal with 12 minutes remaining to lift the No. 7 Pioneers (11-2-1) to the home win.
Freshman goalie Danny Gonzalez recorded his ninth shutout of the season for McLoughlin, which travels to second-seeded Philomath — a 5-0 winner over Estacada — in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Molalla 3, Valley Catholic 0
Evan Hugo scored two goals for No. 12 Molalla (8-5-3), and Martin Ruiz’s goal with 10 minutes left secured its first-round win over Cowapa champion Valley Catholic (11-2-2).
Molalla next travels to Klamath Falls on Saturday to face Skyline champion Henley, a 4-0 winner over Tillamook.
Hugo’s first goal came off a through ball from Antuan Peterson, beating the keeper with a low shot to the bottom-left corner in the 15th minute. In the 65th minute, Hugo scored on the counterattack, taking a pass from Nico del Agua and beating two defenders en route to goal.
Reid Sperl saved a shot off a corner just after Molalla’s first goal to preserve the 1-0 lead.
“It was a big momentum save,” coach Ryan Gates said.
Hidden Valley 3, Marshfield 1
Theo Bergman completed his hat trick with just under 15 minutes remaining to secure the ninth-seeded Mustangs’ victory against the Sky-Em champion Pirates.
Marshfield (9-5-1) grabbed an early 1-0 lead, but Bergman’s first goal midway through the first half erased the deficit.
Hidden Valley (11-4) will take on Ontario (7-5-3), the No. 16 seed, in Saturday’s quarterfinals after the Tigers ousted top seed Stayton 5-3 in penalty kicks after the teams played 100 scoreless minutes.

3A/2A/1A boys first round
Catlin Gabel 8, East Linn Christian 0
Center back Joshua Hamlett and fellow senior Felipe Rueda Duran each had a hat trick, and the top-seeded Eagles (14-0) continued defense of their state title by routing East Linn Christian (4-10-2).
Catlin Gabel was up 5-0 at halftime and did not face a shot on goal.
Elijah Widdows and Owen Jones also scored for the Eagles, and Rueda Duran had two assists. Widdows, Leon Liu and Lucas Holliday also assisted on goals.
Delphian 5, St. Mary's (Medford) 1
No. 9 seed Delphian (12-3-2) scored three goals in the first 19 minutes and rolled to its seventh consecutive victory, winning at Medford’s U.S. Cellular Community Park to earn a quarterfinal match at Catlin Gabel on Saturday.
Daniel Cox had two goals and an assist for the Dragons, and Mujahed Abulohoum also scored twice. Minghan Cui scored the other goal and added an assist, and Memo Cervantes had two assists.
Oregon Episcopal 8, Nyssa 0
Senior captain Connor Mansfield scored five goals and assisted on another to power the fifth-seeded Aardvarks (11-4) to the home win. Mansfield has 27 goals and 17 assists this season and 55 goals for his career.
Senior Torben Karl and junior Barrett Lindholm also scored for Oregon Episcopal, and Pat Ruoff and Vivek Mittal-Hankel added two assists apiece. Senior Alex Colleran earned the shutout in goal.
The Aardvarks will travel to Brookings-Harbor, a 3-2 winner over Santiam Christian, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Brookings-Harbor 3, Santiam Christian 2
The fourth-seeded Bruins (13-1) got goals from freshman Tanner Anderson, senior Bryan Valdovinos and senior Fabian Villa off a penalty kick to pull out the home win.
Brookings-Harbor led 1-0 at halftime on Anderson's goal. Villa's conversion made it 3-1, allowing the Bruins to survive a late penalty-kick goal by the Eagles.
Dayton 7, Rogue Valley Adventist 1
The seventh-seeded Pirates (12-3) conceded a penalty kick goal early in the match, but they responded with five first-half goals en route to the easy home win.
Senior Benji Hudson and freshman Oswaldo Rosas scored twice during the first-half barrage, and senior captain Daniel Anguiano also scored as Dayton built a 5-1 lead.
Hudson completed his hat trick in the second half, and Armando Magaña capped the scoring for the Pirates, who will travel to Riverdale — a 6-0 winner over South Umpqua at Lewis & Clark College — in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Riverdale 6, South Umpqua 0
The No. 2 Mavericks (9-1) got goals from five players and eased into the quarterfinals, where they’ll face Dayton in a rematch of a season-opening 5-0 Riverdale victory.
After a Lancers own goal opened the scoring, the Mavericks built a 5-0 lead by halftime on goals by Sam Veverka, Leo Novack, Dillon Wendle and Winslow Reece. Gabe Stevens tacked on the final goal in the second half.
Riverdale coach Roberto Curliovic commended the work of South Umpqua coach August Harrison and assistants Andrea Maddux and Kalkidan Crapper for maintaining the program when dwindling numbers threatened a season that finished with an 8-5 record.
“I really appreciate what they are doing,” Curliovic said. “Instead of dropping one of the girls/boys programs, they merged them together to keep the student-athletes active.”
Riverside 8, Sutherlin 0
Erick Zavala recorded a hat trick, and Juan Medina and Will Killion combined on their ninth shutout of the season as the third-seeded Pirates (14-1) cruised to the home victory.
“Our defense has improved a lot since the beginning of the season,” said Riverside coach Jose Duenas, whose team has allowed three goals during a 10-game win streak since an 8-0 loss to Catlin Gabel in mid-September.
Dareck Castaneda, Diego Magana, Osvaldo Martinez, Pablo Claustro and Efrain Lopez also found the back of the net for the Pirates, who will take on undefeated Pleasant Hill — a 4-0 winner over Western Christian/Amity — in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Pleasant Hill 4, Western Christian 0
No. 6 Pleasant Hill (16-0) got off to a strong start to postseason play, getting two goals from junior striker Adrian Arellano, who has a school-record 40 goals for the season — four off the state record for single-season goals set in 2018 by Brookings-Harbor’s Luke Beamon.
Pleasant Hill captain Owen Hammond, a midfielder, added a goal, as did freshman forward Andrew Taylor.
Junior wing Cole Stream had two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Allen had 14 saves.
