Each week, the team at SBLive Mississippi will take an in-depth look at the past week’s high school girls soccer action, as well as a look ahead to the action to come in the following week.

Here’s a look at the weekly girls soccer wrap for the week of Nov. 14 to Nov. 20.

Games of the Week

Madison Central 6, Starkville 1

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets (2-1-2) made the trek down to “The Jungle” on Tuesday night for stop No. 2 of their three-game tour of the Jackson Metro. The Lady Yellowjackets traveled to Clinton High School last Thursday and earned an impressive 0-0 draw against last year’s 6A North State Runner-Up. They also defeated Caledonia High School by a score of 1-0 over the weekend. The Lady Yellowjackets were clearly a team playing confidence judging by their recent play.

The Madison Central Lady Jags (3-1-0) also came in hot, riding a three-game win streak that includes an impressive weekend showing at the Laurel Soccer Showcase with wins over Stone and Desoto Central.

Similar to last week, the Lady Jags started on the front foot early when Sophia Monico played Olivia Tribolet in on goal in the third minute. Tribolet took care of the rest, going right by her defender and blasting the game’s opening goal into the top left corner.

Tribolet and the Lady Jags continued to cause problems for the Lady Yellow Jackets, with Tribolet playing two nice crosses to teammates Ava Dear and Sophia Monico who both scored their chances in the 9th and 14th minutes, respectively.

The Lady Yellowjackets generated their best chance of the half in the 30th minute, when midfielder Emma Wilson got a shot off from the top of the box that sailed just over the bar. The half came to a close with Madison Central leading 3-0.

Starkville created chances early in the second half, including a shot on goal by Emma Wilson in the 55th minute and a header on goal by Julia McPherson in the 59th minute, but couldn't break through.

The Lady Jags kept up the pressure, as Tribolet played yet another cross to the feet of Ava Dear, who smashed the ball in the back of the net for Madison Central’s fourth goal of the night.

The Lady Jags added another another in 64th minute, when Ava Dear played a free kick into a dangerous area that found the feet of Lorilee Taylor, who volleyed the finish home.

Starkville finally got one back in the 74th minute, when Veronica Dunne floated a nicely placed shot just over the goalkeeper’s head in the closing minutes.

Goals: Olivia Tribolet (3’), Ava Dear (9’, 56’), Sophia Monico (14’), Lorilee Taylor (64’), Veronica Dunne (74’, Starkville), Carolyn Ann Callum (76’)

Germantown 3, Pearl 0

The Pearl Lady Pirates (4-2-0) were more than hospitable to the Germantown Lady Mavericks (6-2-1) at Ray Rogers Stadium Thursday night. The Lady Mavericks started the season a bit slow but have really struck fire lately going undefeated in their last six contests. Led by head coach J.T. Coward, the Lady Mavericks had steadily built momentum as region play approaches and continued that against the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates also had a slow start to the season, but came into the match on a three-game winning streak with wins against Laurel, Morton, and Vicksburg High schools by a combine score of 14-1.

Thursday's match started with both teams taking some time to settle into the game. The Lady Pirates attempted to get on the front foot early in the ninth minute, when Khloe Ware played a dangerous cross that nearly found teammate Zykeria Wright, but was cut out by the Lady Mavs goalkeeper.

Germantown responded to the threat by taking control of the game. The Lady Mavs scored the opening goal in the 13th minute, when Lily Frazier played a nice pass to Maggie Pace, who cut inside and scored nicely in the right corner of the goal. The Lady Mavs wasted little time before getting their second goal in the 16th minute, when the ball fell to Madelyn Rodriguez at the top of the box. Rodriguez struck the ball well and sent it straight over the Pearl goalkeeper’s head and into the net.

The Lady Mavs got their third goal of the half in the 31st minute on a nicely worked sequence. Lily Frazier played a nice pass into space to Maggie Pace, who hit a great cross to a wide open Marlie Jones. Jones put a great touch on her kick and scored on the near post side, giving the Lady Mavs a comfortable 3-0 lead headed into the half.

In the second half, the Lady Pirates played strong defensively, led by left back Jennifer Neal and goalkeeper Reagan Van Buren. Neal cut out several Germantown attacks and Van Buren made several nice saves. Neal also saved a goal herself in the 74th minute, when the left back cleared a Germantown shot off the line to keep the score at 3-0.

That's how it finished, with the Lady Mavs taking home a nice win in a game they took controlled after the 10th minute.

Goals: Maggie Pace (13’), Madelyn Rodriguez (16’), Marlie Jones (31’)
Assists: Lily Frazier (13’), Maggie Pace (31’)
