Here are the candidates for the WaFd BankArizona High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17-23 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Jalynn Avila, Senior, Bourgade Catholic - It was an explosive night for Avila on Tuesday, who set two different career-bests in the team’s 54-32 victory over Wickenburg. Dropping a double-double with 21 points and 21 rebounds, both are good for a new personal record while she also posted four blocks, two steals and an assist. 

Adriana Bachman, Junior, Poston Butte - Leading Poston Butte in scoring on Wednesday with 27 points on the night, she helped the Broncos easily rout Coronado 79-13. To make it a double-double, she snagged 10 steals, as well as five deflections, five rebounds, a block and an assist. 

Jaeda Brown, Freshman, Saguaro - The young Sabercat really got a chance to shine in Tuesday’s 80-14 win over Marcos de Niza. With a career-high of 16 points, she was on fire while shooting 88-percent from the field. She also contributed with four steals, two rebounds and two assists to round out her stellar performance on the court. 

Desirae Bundy, Junior, Alhambra - Exploding to a career-high 23 points on Thursday, she also had six steals, three rebounds and two blocks to help Alhambra pick up a 62-6 victory over Maryvale. 

Savannah Cardona, Senior, Scottsdale Christian Academy - One point shy of her career-best, Cardona had 27 points on Friday in the 41-14 victory over Trivium Prep. She also had seven steals, two deflections, two rebounds and an assist to help the Eagles pick up the win. 

Meisha Caserio, Sophomore, Gilbert - Back on the list is Caserio, who posted a career-high 27 points while shooting 67-percent from the field on Thursday night in the 58-48 victory over Casteel. She also had four steals, three deflections, three rebounds and two assists in the win. 

Victoria Cazares, Junior, Pueblo - Cazares is continuing to roll as her junior season unfolds, opening up the most recent week with 28 points and four rebounds despite Pueblo’s 53-43 loss to Flowing Wells on Monday. 

Ashlynn Chlarson, Junior, Pima - Posting a career-high of 24 points in Wednesday’s 93-16 victory over Willcox, Chlarson also had four rebounds, three steals and a block to round out what was arguably one of the top performances of her career so far. 

Cassandra Coolidge, Sophomore, Sahuaro - Helping the Cougars pick up a 62-51 victory over Canyon del Oro on Thursday, Coolidge had 21 points to lead the game in scoring along with five assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block. 

Talia Dial, Senior, Dysart - Tying her career high of 35 points, last week’s SBLive Player of the Week started things off with a monstrous game against Yuma on Monday. Inking a double-double with 15 rebounds, she also had five deflections, four assists and three steals. In Thursday’s 65-47 loss to Saguaro, Dial still was able to put up 24 points to lead the game in scoring along with 10 rebounds, four assists, a steal, a deflection and a block. Friday brought another 61-45 loss, this time to Estrella Foothills, but Dial still managed to post 22 points to lead the team in scoring, along with seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a deflection. 

Talia Estrada, Senior, Leading Edge Academy - Exploding to break 30 points in a game for the second time this season, Estrada helped power the Spartans to a 65-47 victory over Lincoln Prep on Tuesday with her strong performance. She also had seven steals, three deflections, three assists and three rebounds. 

Shamara Goodwin, Senior, Alhambra - Posting a career-high 25 points on Thursday in a 62-6 victory over Maryvale, Goodwin also had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists to round out one of her best all-around performances to date. She followed it up on Friday in the 60-45 road victory over South Mountain by posting a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, along with three blocks and a steal. 

Symirah Gray, Freshman, Poston Butte - With the second-best offensive performance of her career so far, Gray posted 16 points while shooting 80-percent from the field in Poston Butte’s 75-38 victory over Vista Grande on Friday. She also had five rebounds, three assists and three deflections to help the Broncos pick up the win. 

Navae Guidry, Freshman, Mesquite - Helping Mesquite get revenge for a loss at the Nike TOC, Guidry posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday, along with two assists and a steal to help the Wildcats defeat the Shadow Mountain Matadors 46-39. 

Elli Guiney, Sophomore, Millennium - The Tigers competed in a tough St. Mary’s MLK Showcase, an out of state tournament, where Guiney led the team in scoring and rebounding with 20 and nine, respectively. She also had a steal and a block in the Tigers’ 64-57 loss to Laguna Creek (Elk Grove, CA). 

Damya Hale, Senior, Cortez - As the sun is starting to set on her senior season, Hale had a great performance on Wednesday night to not only set a personal-best, but also help Cortez pick up a 65-50 win over Apache Junction. Shooting 67-percent from the field, Hale had 39 points along with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. 

Alyssa Heath, Senior, Mohave - The senior had a big night on Friday in Mohave’s 58-42 victory over Prescott, posting 22 points, seven steals, five assists and three rebounds for a strong close to the week. 

Ashiian Hunter, Junior, Mesa - In Tuesday’s 52-26 victory over Red Mountain, Hunter led the game in scoring with 24 points on the night while also snagging four steals, three rebounds and three assists. 

Tyleigh Jim, Freshman, Yuma - Monday was a career-best outing all around the court for Jim in the game against Dysart. Not only good for a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, both set a new career-best for the freshman. She also had five steals, an assist and a block despite the Criminals’ 55-41 loss. 

Amayah Levya, Freshman, Buckeye - Not only did she lead the team in scoring on Friday night in the 49-44 victory over Youngker, Levya’s 21 points set a new career-high. She also had five deflections, four steals, two rebounds and an assist to help the Hawks escape with a conference win. 

Samantha Lyle, Senior, Saguaro - Helping Saguaro pick up a 58-39 win over Mingus on Wednesday, Lyle dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, paired with five blocks and two steals to come in clutch for the Sabercats. 

Navine Mallon, Junior, Flowing Wells - The Junior put up a combined 37 points and 40 rebounds in three big games last week to help Flowing Wells keep a nice record as the push toward the playoffs continues. 

Sarah Miller, Sophomore, Xavier College Prep -Despite a tough 71-65 loss to Valley Vista on Wednesday, the sophomore showed she’s not one to be challenged on the court while still posting 31 points on 60-percent shooting from the field. She also had nine rebounds, as well as an assist, a steal and a deflection to help the Gators give it their all against the state’s top girls team. On Friday, she helped the Gators take down another 6A powerhouse in the Hamilton Huskies, where she posted 24 points, five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a deflection in the 47-28 win. 

Gracelyn Nez, Senior, Flagstaff - Nez has led Flagstaff’s powerful offense the last few seasons, and it was no different last week in the Eagle’s big cross-town rivalry game against the Coconino Panthers. With 18 points and 12 rebounds for a nice double-double, she also had four assists, two deflections, a block and a steal to help pick up a 65-41 win. 

Brooklyn Pablo, Senior, Coolidge - Helping the Bears to a 56-23 beatdown of San Tan Foothills on Thursday, Pablo led the game in scoring with 28 points, single-handedly posting more on her own than the entire San Tan Foothills squad combined. She also had 11 steals, good for a double-double, along with four rebounds, two deflections and two blocks. 

Nashelle Ponds, Junior, Sahuaro - In Sahuaro’s 62-51 victory over Canyon del Oro on Thursday night, Ponds had 20 points, eight rebounds, a pair of steals and blocks and an assist to help the Cougars take home a nice conference road win. 

Akasha Prpich, Sophomore, Centennial - Despite dropping a close game on Friday to Ironwood, Prpich still posted 26 points for the Coyotes on 62-percent shooting in the 49-46 defeat. She also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal on the night.

Alondra Reyes, Freshman, St. Mary’s - Back on our list this week is Reyes, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to help St. Mary’s defeat Tempe 52-29 on Monday. Reyes shot 75-percent from the field and had five steals, two assists and a block. She followed it up on Wednesday in the 47-26 victory over Thunderbird with another double-double, this time with 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with six steals and three assists. Closing the week out strong in St. Mary’s Saturday game against Bradshaw Mountain, Reyes had another 19 points and 15 rebounds, along with four steals and three blocks to help the Knights pick up a 52-45 win. 

Rahimeh Salaam, Senior, Cortez - While Salaam’s 19 points in Wednesday’s win were big, they become even more dynamic when paired with some of her other stat lines from the 65-50 win over Apache Junction. Picking up an outstanding triple-double with 17 rebounds and 13 blocks, she also had six steals, four assists and three deflections for a lights-out performance on the night.

Jayla Scott, Senior, Vista Grande - Back on the list this week is Scott, who posted 36 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double in Wednesday’s 71-26 victory over Marcos de Niza. She also had four blocks, three steals and an assist as Vista Grande easily defeated the Padres. 

Ashlie Sherwood, Senior, Pima - Posting a double-double in Tuesday’s 73-21 win over Morenci, Sherwood led the game in scoring with 17 points and tied her teammate for rebounds with 12. She also had three assists and three steals to round out her powerful performance. 

Aubrie Sherwood, Senior, Pima - Joining her sister on the list is Aubrie, whose 86-percent shooting from the field led her to a career-high 29 points on Wednesday night in the 93-16 beatdown of Willcox. She also had eight steals, four assists and three rebounds to help close out her strong night and help Pima glide to a win. 

Alexa Simpson, Freshman, Saguaro - One of the stronger performances of her young career, Simpson posted 12 points and 11 rebounds on Thursday in Saguaro’s 65-47 win over Dysart. In addition, she also had seven deflections, five steals, two assists and a block for an all-around dominant performance on the hardwood. 

Ariyanna Sorenson, Senior, Cienega - With arguably her best performance of the season Thursday night, Sorenson helped Cienega pick up a 62-42 conference win over Nogales thanks to her double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. She also had five steals and three assists on the night to round out her game.

Kiley Sours-Miller, Junior, Greenway - Greenway was able to dismantle Thunderbird 58-22 on Friday largely because of Sours-Miller and her contributions. Posting a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds, she also had four blocks, two steals and an assist.

Mya Way, Junior, Mesquite - Helping the Wildcats pick up a 71-35 victory over ALA-Queen Creek on Friday, Way had 20 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds to help lead Mesquite on the court. 

Isabella Webb, Freshman, Mica Mountain - Webb helped Mica Mountain pick up a 52-6 victory over St. Augustine Catholic on Thursday with one of the strongest performances of her career so far. Posting 19 points, eight steals, six rebounds, two assists and a block, Webb was all over the court on Thursday to help get the job done.
