Former Bryant offensive tackle Brooks Edmonson became the most recent in-state preferred walk-on for the University of Arkansas after making the official announcement Monday that he would be staying home.

He is one of eight Arkansas natives to accept a PWO, joining Pulaski Academy’s Mason Schueck, Siloam Springs’ Hunter Talley, Ozark’s Brock Burns, Hope’s Kai Hamilton, Robinson’s Daryl Searcy, El Dorado’s Kam Bibby and Jonesboro’s John Paul Pickens.

Edmonson started 38 games during his high school career on the offensive line and played a major part in the past three of Bryant’s four state titles in a row along with a 42-game win streak against in-state opponents.

After initially committing to Princeton last July over offers from Kansas, Middle Tennessee and others, Edmonson was contacted by the Arkansas coaching staff in January to come up to Fayetteville for a visit which heavily sparked his interest.

“The process started about two weeks ago, they contacted me about coming up on prospect day,” Edmonson said. “Being up there and being able to see everything and just seeing the ‘wow’ factor, it really reminded me how special Arkansas is and how much I want to be there. It has always been my dream to be up there.”

Along with the eight previously mentioned preferred walk-ons, the Razorbacks have signed 10 scholarship Arkansans in the 2022 class, the most since 2008. With the Razorbacks coming off their best season since 2011 and things continuing to trend up, Edmonson is excited to get started with guys who shared the exact same dream as him growing up in Arkansas.

“I have not seen the exact number of in-state kids (who have signed) but it is a ton,” Edmonson said. “With everybody that is going up there, I know that it is going to be special. It is just awesome, and I know with what Coach Pittman is building it makes the fans happy, too.”

Edmonson knows he will be under great leadership once he makes it to Fayetteville under Hogs coach Sam Pittman with him having such a strong background as a longtime offensive line coach, but he credits his previous head coach Buck James and offensive line coach Shane Clancy for his development playing for a state championship program.

“Being here has greatly increased my work ethic,” Edmonson said. “They preach every day to just work as hard as we can. No matter how good you are, you can always be better. I plan to take that into college and continue to work to make myself better and earn my opportunity.”
