Here are the candidates for the WaFd BankArizona High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 24-30 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Joaquin Anaya, Junior, Kofa - With his strongest all-around performance on the court this season, Anaya helped Kofa pick up a 69-64 win over Yuma on Monday to start the week off strong. Posting a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, he also had three steals along with a pair of blocks and assists to close out the night. 

Darius Anderson, Junior, Dysart - Just shy of his career-high for scoring, Anderson opened things up on Tuesday by posting 22 points while shooting 67-percent from the field in the 81-35 blowout over Youngker. In addition, he also had four assists along with a pair of steals and rebounds. 

Luke Arington, Senior, Shadow Ridge - With 19 points on the night, Arington’s performance helped lift the Stallions to a 65-52 victory over Westview on Monday. His night included 10 rebounds for a double-double, along with three assists and two steals. 

Wes Ball, Senior, Marana - While Thursday’s 76-63 loss to Ironwood Ridge was tough, Ball still had a strong personal night on the hardwood. Leading the game in scoring, Ball had 26 points while shooting 59-percent from the field. Making it a double-double with 10 rebounds, he also had three assists and two blocks. 

Jordan Bateman, Senior, Thunderbird - Shooting 79-percent from the field on Tuesday, Bateman was one point shy of his career-best, posting 24 on the night for the Titans in the 85-47 victory over Tempe. He also had six rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. The following night, he shot 78-percent from the field for 18 points along with snagging four rebounds to help Thunderbird cruise past Shadow Mountain 82-54.

Kota Benson, Junior, Mesa - Leading the game in scoring on Monday against Dobson, Benson had 21 points to help lift the Jackrabbits to a 57-44 win. Along with his 21 points, he also had five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a deflection. 

Imari Blueeyes, Senior, Moon Valley - Helping the Rockets pick up a huge 72-42 region win over Shadow Mountain on Tuesday, Blueeyes posted 18 points, four rebounds and three assists while only playing in half of the game. 

David Bright, Senior, Willow Canyon - Posting 20 points while shooting 82-percent from the field, Bright led Friday’s game against Independence in scoring with 20 points. Making it a double-double with 10 rebounds, he also had four steals, four deflections, two blocks and an assist in the 105-39 win. 

Iyon Brown, Junior, North -Just shy of his career-high posted last week, Brown had 27 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, along with two blocks and an assist despite North’s 64-63 loss to Central on Saturday. 

Kayson Bryant, Senior, Mesquite - Not only did Bryant tie his career high of 20 points in the 59-43 win over Saguaro, he also set a new personal best of 17 rebounds for a double-double on the night. He finished things up with two assists, a steal and a block. 

Andrew Camacho, Junior, Peoria - His dominance over the 4A Conference in the west valley continued this week when he opened things up on Monday with 24 points while shooting 75-percent from the field to help Peoria slam Barry Goldwater 86-31. He also had eight steals, four rebounds, four deflections and two assists. In Thursday’s OT game against Deer Valley, Camacho helped the Panthers pick up a sweet 78-76 redemption victory over the Skyhawks with 24 points, four assists, two deflections, a steal and a rebound. 

Marcus Coleman, Senior, Pueblo - Coleman returns to the list this week after starting things off with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and two deflections despite a 67-51 loss to Sahuaro on Tuesday. He followed things up on Thursday in the 62-58 victory over Canyon del Oro with another 20 points, four rebounds, two steals and a deflection. Rounding the week out on Friday, he dropped 27 points to lead the game against Salpointe Catholic in scoring despite the Warriors’ 64-60 loss, along with two assists, two steals, two deflections and a rebound. 

Cougar Cooke, Senior, Show Low - In a huge rivalry game between the two small-town schools, Cooke balled out on Thursday night by posting 27 points while shooting 77-percent from the field to help the Cougars pick up an 84-82 victory over the Snowflake Lobos. In addition, he had 10 rebounds for a double-double, six assists and four steals. 

Masai Dean, Senior, Cholla - As his final high school season is approaching a close, Dean put on another strong performance Thursday night despite Cholla’s 55-48 loss to Sahuaro. Leading the game in scoring with 21 points on the night, he also had eight assists, six rebounds and three steals on the night. He followed it up on Friday with a career-high 42 points, eight rebounds and three assists despite the 64-52 loss to Cienega. 

Tate DeBoer, Senior, Willow Canyon - Willow Canyon’s roster is loaded with ballers, and DeBoer’s number was finally called on Friday in the 105-39 victory over Independence. Shooting 75-percent from the field, he had 12 points, along with 16 rebounds for a double-double. DeBoer is one of the top shot-blockers in the state, and he was able to snag another five, along with three deflections, four assists and two steals in Friday’s win. 

Kaleb Felix, Senior, Copper Canyon - Despite Copper Canyon’s 61-51 loss to Tolleson on Friday, Felix posted a new career-high of 27 points next to five rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

Oakland Fort, Senior, Sunnyslope - Shooting 83-percent from the field on Friday night, Fort teamed up with his teammate Elijah Saunders to help the Vikings power past the Westview Knights 79-40. Fort finished the night with 22 points, eight assists, two rebounds and two steals. 

Brayden Gant, Junior, Coolidge - Back on the list again this week is the small-school player, who dropped 25 points, five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a deflection in Friday’s 74-47 blowout of Florence on the road. 

Carter Gittens, Senior, Sunrise Mountain - Helping Sunrise Mountain bring down Apollo in a 51-43 win on Friday, Gittens posted 19 points while shooting 60-percent from the field to lead the Mustangs in scoring. With 11 rebounds, he also posted a double-double on the night while leading the team in crashing the boards, along with two assists, two blocks and a deflection. 

Cohen Gonzales, Junior, Mesquite - Leading Mesquite to a 74-58 victory over Marcos de Niza on Tuesday, Gonzales had 28 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals on the night.

Weston Haebig, Junior, Sabino - Haebig’s hitting his stride at just the right time, starting the week off by continuing the momentum from his 45-point game the Friday before by dropping 26 points on the night, along with two rebounds, to help Sabino defeat Safford 67-50. 

Caden Hunter, Junior, Liberty - Shooting 67-percent from the field on Monday, Hunter had 21 points on the night to lead the Lions to a 76-54 victory over Sandra Day O’Connor. His performance also included five steals, four rebounds, two assists and a deflection. 

Devin Irving, Senior, Cortez -  Shooting his way to his best game of the season with 21 points on the night while hitting 90-percent from the field, Irving helped Cortez pick up a big 58-51 conference win against Poston Butte on Tuesday. Making it a double-double with 15 rebounds, he also had three steals, a block and an assist. Keeping things rolling on Thursday, he posted 12 points while shooting 75-percent from the field next to 10 rebounds, four steals and two blocks in a 53-51 victory over Vista Grande.

Aadem Isai, Junior, Valley Vista - Leading Valley Vista in scoring on Friday with 26 points, Isai also had eight assists, four rebounds, three steals and a block to help the Monsoon pick up a 79-56 win. 

Rob Jenkins, Senior, Cactus -Jenkins returns to the list this week for becoming one of the newest members of the 1,000 career points club. In the two games Cactus played in the week against Notre Dame Prep on Tuesday and Desert Edge on Thursday, Jenkins averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 deflections and a block. 

Kaden Keefer, Senior, Vista Grande - Making his first appearance on our player of the week list, Keefer had one of his best nights on the hardwood Monday to help Vista Grande pick up a 61-50 win over Combs. Leading the game with 20 points on the night, he also had six rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists.

Denton Latimore, Senior, Dobson - Shooting 73-percent from the field on Thursday in the 67-46 victory over Maryvale, Latimore led the game in scoring with 23 points while also picking up 11 rebounds for a double-double. He also had three assists, two steals and a block to round out his overall performance. Following it up on Friday, he led the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points while also picking up nine rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist to help defeat Red Mountain 56-46. 

Luke Light, Senior, Paradise Honors - Starting the week off on Tuesday by posting 26 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double, Light helped Paradise Honors pick up a 79-72 win over Buckeye to set the tone. 

Chris Long, Senior, Vista Grande - Shooting 67-percent from the field on Tuesday, Long had 23 points along with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks to help Vista Grande defeat Apache Junction 52-21

Rowan McKenzie, Sophomore, Boulder Creek - McKenzie exploded to a career-high 31 points on Monday to start the week off strong and help Boulder Creek pick up an 80-57 conference win over Chaparral. Keeping things going on Thursday in Boulder Creek’s 66-40 victory over Tolleson, he led the game in scoring with 21 points, along with six rebounds, five assists and a steal. He rounded the week out on Friday with another 24 points, five rebounds and four assists to help the Jaguars defeat region opponent Mountain Ridge 79-49.

Sedrick Nari, Junior, Queen Creek - Helping propel the Bulldogs to a 63-54 upset of the Desert Vista Thunder on Monday, Nari posted 17 points on the night while shooting 70-percent from the field while picking up six rebounds, two assists, a deflection and a steal. 

Dylan Novak, Freshman, ALA Gilbert North - Tying his career-high of 30 points on Tuesday, Novak helped lead the Eagles to a 68-62 victory over Eastmark while also dishing out six assists, snagging three steals and grabbing four rebounds. 

Blessing Nwotite, Senior, Paradise Honors - Leading Thursday’s game in scoring, Nwotite posted 20 points paired with three rebounds, three assists, three deflections, a steal and a block to help Paradise Honors defeat Dysart 65-50. He also became a member of the 1,000 career points club on the way to the win.

Jason Parent, Senior, Prescott - Opening the week up on Tuesday with 33 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, three deflections and a steal, Parent put his best foot forward despite Prescott’s 69-67 loss to Coconino on the road. 

Jordan Parrish, Freshman, La Joya - Posting a career-high 18 points on Monday in the 58-28 victory over Lake Havasu, the freshman’s strong performance also included six rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

Brennan Peterson, Freshman, Notre Dame Prep - With a career-high 27 points on Tuesday, Peterson helped Notre Dame Prep pick up an 82-77 victory over Cactus by leading the game in scoring. Additionally, he had eight rebounds and three assists on the night. 

Bryce Quinet, Freshman, Notre Dame Prep - Leading Thursday’s game against Marcos de Niza in scoring, the freshman shot an outstanding 82-percent from the field to post 23 points on the night to help lift the Saints to a 78-70 victory. With four assists, two rebounds and a steal, his performance was the sparkplug to help the Saints to victory. 

Chris Ruiz, Junior, Kellis - Ruiz broke the Raymond S. Kellis all-time scoring record of 1,032 career points on Friday while posting nine points on the night for a highlight in the Cougars’ tough 76-48 loss to Centennial. 

Elijah Saunders, Senior, Sunnyslope - Saunders’ had a lights-out performance on Monday to help Sunnyslope pick up a 76-43 victory over Copper Canyon. Shooting an outstanding 93-percent from the field, Saunders posted 29 points on the night along with four rebounds, four assists and a steal. On Friday, he and teammate Oakland Fort teamed up once again to dominate the court, with Saunders dropping 37 points to ink a new career-high next to four rebounds in the 79-40 victory over Westview. 

Caleb Shaw, Senior, Valley Christian - In Valley Christian’s 65-39 victory over Benjamin Franklin on Friday, Shaw posted 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, two deflections, a steal and a block. 

Noah Sowunmi, Sophomore, Paradise Valley -Despite Paradise Valley’s 89-42 loss to McClintock on Tuesday, Sowunmi posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, paired with two assists, two steals and two blocks despite the Trojans' loss. 

Tyler Stegmeier, Sophomore, Saguaro - Posting a career-high 22 points in Tuesday’s 60-48 win over Seton Catholic, Stegmeier also picked up three rebounds, three steals and two assists en route to the win. 

Pike Tancil, Senior, Willow Canyon - Normally known for his explosive shooting, Tancil’s performance on Friday night caught our attention for a different reason. While he managed to post 13 points while shooting 75-percent from the field, he also had 17 assists on the night for a double-double, helping his teammates thrive on the court. In addition, he had three rebounds, two steals and a deflection in the 105-39 victory over Independence. 

Canyon Torres, Junior, Salpointe Catholic - It can be hard to break out as a leading scorer for the Lancers with so many loaded shooters. Torres made a way for himself on Monday in the 69-54 victory over Sahuaro. With 25 points while shooting 71-percent from the field, he led the game in scoring while also picking up four rebounds, four deflections, four steals, two assists and a block. He had another solid game once again on Friday, leading the Lancers in scoring with 18 points while also snagging six rebounds, three assists, two steals, two deflections and a block in the 64-60 victory over Pueblo. 

Tru Washington, Junior, Mountain Pointe - Returning to the list again this week is Washington, who started the week off by nearly posting a double-double in the 71-56 win over Highland. Washington had 23 points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and two deflections to help get the win.
