With the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association girls basketball playoffs tipping off Thursday, we’re taking a look at the top players to watch, class by class.

TOP 10 FRESHMEN IN FLORIDA GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Lena Girardi, Westminster Academy

Girardi is a name to know for the Class of 2025, finishing the regular season averaging 20.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. Westminster Academy will take on Coral Shores Thursday in the Class 3A, Region 4 Quarterfinal.

Abby Knauff, Bolles (Jacksonville)

Knauff averaged 17 points, 4.8 rebounds and nearly three steals per game this season for the Lady Bulldogs. Bolles travels across the state to take on Rutherford High in the Class 4A, Region 1 Quarterfinal Thursday.

Janie Boyd, Providence School (Jacksonville)

Boyd is averaging 15.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game this season for the Lady Stallions. 

Maleda Azunque, First Baptist Academy (Naples)

Azunque is having a stellar freshman season for the Lady Lions, as she’s averaging 10.5 points and 12.1 rebounds per game this season. First Baptist Academy will open their regional play against Cambridge Christian Thursday.

Alahni Lovett, Lakewood

Lovett had a stellar season for the Lady Spartans, leading the state in 3-point percentage for her freshman class at 42%. The Spartans take on Weeki Wachee in their opening round regional quarterfinal game Thursday.

Ava Butler, Rutherford (Panama City)

Butler is averaging 11.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game this season for the Lady Rams.

Jaylin Neder, Land O’Lakes

Neder is averaging 21.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game this season for the Lady Gators. Land O’Lakes will host East Bay in the Class 6A, Region 3 Quarterfinal.

Nacoya Blocton, Ridgeview

Blocton is averaging 10 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.4 steals per game this season for the Lady Panthers.

Kayla DeBrow, Florida School of Deaf & Blind

DeBrow is averaging 11.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 3.6 blocks per game this season.

Olivia Staples, Freedom (Orlando)

Staples is averaging 10.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals and also shoots 80 percent from the free throw line.
