The end of the 2021-22 high school boys basketball season is drawing near. NIBC league play is done and regional and state playoffs are underway in most states.

There was a big SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 upset last week — No. 10 Sierra Canyon (California) losing to Harvard-Westlake in CIF Southern Section pool play — as well as a Power 25 head-to-head matchup with Paul VI (Virginia) knocking off Bishop McNamara (Maryland). Those games resulted in several changes to our latest Power 25 rankings.

Three straight home games, three straight comfortable home wins last week against Benet Academy (Ill), Rich Township (Ill.) and Western Reserve Academy (Ohio).

Logged double-digit wins over Camden Catholic (twice, one home and away) and a win at Rutgers Prep.

Beat Liberty Heights Cardinals (N.C.) and Virginia Episcopal (Va.) — both by double-digits — but the biggest news of the week? The school announced coach Steve Smith’s successor: Ridge View (S.C.)’s Yerrick Stoneman, an assistant under Smith from 1996-2007 (which included five national titles).

11. Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.) (23-5)

Rematches with Olympia — which it lost to in districts last week — in the FHSAA 7A state tournament regional semifinals. Panthers seek to defend its first 7A state title.

Edged Patrick School 66-63, then opened the Union County Tournament with a 73-56 quarterfinal win over Oratory (N.J.).

Oregon pledge Kel’el Ware was sidelined with a wrist injury, but the Charging Wildcats kept rolling with comfortable wins over Bryant and Conway.

Senior Darrior Williams had 29 points as the Gaels capped a sweep to the Nevada 5A Southern Region championship with a 77-61 win over Liberty on Friday. Opens playoffs Friday.

Walloped Crean Lutheran 91-46 in CIF Southern Section Open Division pool play on Friday. Up next? A Southern Section Open Division title Friday showdown with Harvard Westlake, which is coming off of an upset at Sierra Canyon.

After beating Mater Dei, the Trailblazers were upset at home by Notre Dame-bound Brady Dunlap and Harvard-Westlake without Nebraska-bound point guard Ramel Lloyd in the CIF Southern Section Open Division Pool Play.

18. Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) (29-1)

Chicago city power Simeon looked poised to hand them their first loss to an Illinois team in the regular season finale, but the Hilltoppers had other plans. Glenbard West thrashed them 60-32.

19. Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.) (31-3)

Up next: Feb. 22 vs. Cannon (NCISAA 4A state semifinals)

Beat 7-seed Charlotte Christian in the NCISAA 4A state quarterfinals 55-33, setting up a semifinal matchup with 6-seed Cannon, which it beat by seven in early December.

Beat No. 23 Bishop McNamara 69-64, clearing the way to finish atop the WCAC standings. Wrap up WCAC regular season play at Bishop O’Connell Monday.

The Elks have not been stopped or slowed in 2021-22 and that continued last week when they beat Fairborn (Ohio) by 40 in a regional playoff game.

Georgia’s top-ranked team has swept its way through the postseason and opens the Georgia Class 7A state playoffs on Tuesday.

Hayes is through to the CHSAA tournament semifinals on Tuesday after winning the CHSAA. Junior Tobe Awaka was named player of the year.

Who qualifies for the Power 25?

In order to qualify, programs must be either affiliated with the state high school athletic association in the state it resides in or recognized by the association and allowed to play member high schools in its home state.
