Preview: Regional finals are on tap for North Carolina football

All four classifications are down to the final four teams, each vying for a spot in next week's state championship games.

The regional finals have arrived in North Carolina high school football, with eight games to be played Friday night. Here’s a look at the matchups.

1-A East

Tarboro (12-1) vs. Rosewood (10-4)

The Vikings have lost only to 3-A playoff team Hertford County, 56-54. They feature a strong running game with a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. Sophomore Mason Satterfield has 1,212 yards and 18 TDs. Freshman Kamerin McDowell-Moore has 1,123 yards and 20 TDs. ... Rosewood has won nine straight after a 1-4 start. The Eagles surprised previously undefeated North Moore to reach the regional final.

1-A West

Mount Airy (13-1) vs. Draughn (13-1)

Mount Airy toppled top seed Eastern Randolph 35-17 in the third round. Junior tailback Tyler Mason has run for 1,725 yards and 37 TDs. ... Draughn is making the deepest playoff run in program history. The Wildcats’ 6-foot-6 quarterback, Elijah Tillery, has thrown for 2,142 yards and 31 TDs while also running for 581 yards and 10 TDs. Tailback Nigel Dula has 1,658 yards and 29 TDs. Zach Pinkerton has caught 53 passes for 1,064 yards and 18 TDs.

2-A East

East Duplin (13-1) vs. Wallace-Rose Hill (12-2)

Two archrivals meet again. East Duplin won the regular season game 13-12. East Duplin runs the wing-T but can throw it, too. Quarterback Zack Brown has 1,157 yards and 18 TDs through the air. Avery Gaby has run for 1,865 yards and 38 TDs. He has also caught three TD passes. Nizaya Hall has 874 yards rushing and 12 TDs. On defense, Duante Hall has 7 interceptions and 92 tackles. ... Wallace-Rose Hill features two 1,000-yard rushers. Sophomore Irving Brown has 1,613 yards and 28 TDs. Junior Corbin Kerr has 1,377 yards and 18 TDs. The Bulldogs don't throw a lot but quarterback Xzavier Pearsall has 10 TD passes.

2-A West

Reidsville (13-1) vs. Burns (13-1)

Reidsville freshman Dionte Neal has an astounding 12 interceptions. On offense, Neal has 44 catches for 693 yards and 9 TDs. Quarterback Al Lee has thrown for 1,983 yard and 27 TDs. Flip Flippen has 50 catches for 828 yards and 11 TDs. ... Burns quarterback Ben Mauney has thrown for 3,235 yards and 35 TDs. Jeremiah Norris has run for 1,256 yards and 16 TDs. Ryan Thompson has 70 receptions for 1,042 yards and 13 TDs. He also has 11 rushing TDs.

Northern Nash (14-0) vs. Seventy-First (14-0)

Two undefeated powerhouses are set to clash. Freshman quarterback Keno Jones threw for 1,922 yards and 29 TDs in the regular season for Northern Nash. ... Seventy-First has a powerful running game. Anthony Quinn Jr. has 2,248 yards and 27 TDs. Senior Jayden Shotwell has 1,278 yards and 13 TDs. Quarterback DeAndre Nance has thrown for 11 TDs and run for 11 TDs.

3-A West

East Lincoln (14-0) vs. South Point (13-1)

East Lincoln quarterback Tyler Mizzell has thrown for 2,368 yards and 35 TDs against just 4 interceptions. Mizzell also has 584 yards and 14 TDs on the ground. Sophomore tailback Christopher Daley II has 1,558 yards and 18 TDs rushing. Markell Clark has caught 57 passes for 825 yards and 16 TDs. Marcel Johnson leads the defense with 15 sacks and 87 tackles. ... South Point sophomore quarterback Patrick Blue has thrown for 10 TDs while running for 1,415 yards and 19 TDs. Cam Medlock has 1,906 yards and 33 TDs rushing. Jaquis Rumph and Mica Stowe each have four interceptions.

4-A East

New Bern (14-0) vs. Millbrook (13-1)

New Bern is led by 6-foot-4, 285-pound Florida State commit K.J. Sampson, who has 18 sacks, 35 quarterback hurries and 79 tackles. The Bears have three 1,000-yard rushers. Arone Herring leads the way with 1,895 yards and 27 TDs. Jayden Wallace has 1,208 yards and 15 TDs.

Quarterback Damage Tucker has 1,145 yards and 15 TDs. Tucker has thrown eight touchdown passes. ... Millbrook is more pass-oriented. Quarterback Mason Fortune has thrown for 3,820 yards and 37 TDs. Nathan Leacock, a Tennessee commit, has 78 receptions for 1,650 yards and 23 TDs. Xavier Pugh leads the ground game with 1,049 yards and 22 TDs.

4-A West

Grimsley (14-0) vs. Weddington (13-1)

Grimsley quarterback Ryan Stephens is an elite dual threat. Stephens has thrown for 1,960 yards and 19 TDs with just 2 interceptions. He has run for 1,003 yards and 24 TDs. Sophomore tailback Mitchell Summers has 1,945 yards and 21 TDs. The Whirlies have two big-time receivers. Terrell Anderson has 57 catches for 1,065 yards and 9 TDs. Alex Taylor had caught 62 passes for 957 yards and 12 TDs. Fred Sellars has 5 interceptions, 13 pass defenses and 38 tackles. ...
