Congratulations to Chatham Central's Reid Albright, the winner of SBLive North Carolina's Athlete of Week award as voted by North Carolina high school sports fans.

Albright scored 35 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 10 assists and had four steals, for a spectacular triple-double, in a 96-93 loss to Eastern Randolph. For his efforts he received 82.35% of our state-wide fan vote.

Here are all the other athletes that were nominated for Jan. 23-28:

Daneesha Briggs, Beddingfield, Girls Basketball

Briggs literally made history by pouring in 50 points as the Bruins stomped Goldsboro 65-18. It was the 20th 50-point game in NCHSAA by a girls basketball player. Briggs was especially torrid in the first half when she tallied 41 points, including an incredible 12-of-13 from 3-point range. She ended up making 13 3-pointers and was 9-of-9 from the free throw line.

Drake Powell, Northwood, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-6 junior surpassed 1,000 points for his career in a 70-17 rout of Cedar Ridge. Powell, who has committed to North Carolina, scored 24 points in the game. He is averaging 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

Navaeh Colon, South View, Girls Basketball

The 5-foot-4 senior produced 31 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals in a 73-48 win over Douglas Byrd. Colon is averaging 19.4 points for the Tigers.

Allie Kinlaw, Page, Indoor Track

A sophomore, Kinlaw swept to victory in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters in the Guilford County Championships at the JDL Fast Track. Kinlaw won both races by several seconds.

Austin Laws, Fred T. Foard, Wrestling

Laws won the 113-pound championship, pinning all three opponents, in the Western Foothills 3-A Conference tournament. Foard also won the team title.

Paul McNeil, Jr., Richmond, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-6 junior guard dominated play in Richmond’s 82-55 rout of Pinecrest. McNeil, who was the Gatorade state player of the year, produced 31 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals and just one turnover. North Carolina State, Alabama, Miami, Indiana, Tennessee and Illinois are among the schools who have made scholarship offers to McNeil.

Declan Brown, A.C. Reynolds, Boys Basketball

A sophomore guard, Brown had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the Rockets’ crucial 92-70 win over Enka. Brown leads the Rockets with averages of 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Nate Shaffer, Salisbury, Boys Swimming

Shaffer won the 50 free and anchored the Hornets’ winning 200 free relay in the Central Carolina Conference championship meet.

Khalil Genwright, Laney, Boys Basketball

A 6-foot-5 senior guard/forward, Genwright put together a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds in the Pirates’ 75-63 win over West Brunswick. Genwright is averaging 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds.
