Jacob Jensen, Burns, Boys Swimming

Jensen turned in a dominant performance in the NCHSAA 1-A/2-A state championships. A senior, Jensen won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. His time in the 50 free broke the former meet record. Jensen was named Outstanding Performer for the meet.

Luke Nebrich, West Davidson, Boys Swimming

Nebrich won the 100-yard freestyle at the NCHSAA 1-A/2-A state championship in an All-American time of 45.23 seconds. He was a close second to Jensen in the 50 free, and that was also in an All-American time - 20.40 seconds. That time was also under the former meet record.

Mary Shanahan, Eno River Academy, Girls Swimming

Shanahan won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, earning her the Outstanding Performer award for the NCHSAA 1-A/2-A state meet.

Brecken Snotherly, Eastern Randolph, Girls Basketball

The East Tennessee State recruit has been on this list several times. This time she’s really done it. Snotherly scored a career-high and school record 51 points in the Wildcats’ 72-39 rout of Trinity. She also surpassed 2,000 points for her career.

Christian Constant, Jacksonville, Boys Basketball

A 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior forward, Constant scored 15 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and had 4 assists in the Cardinals’ 63-36 rout of South Central. The Cardinals won their first conference championship since 2002.

Jamison Avila, White Oak, Boys Basketball

There’s something about being clutch. Avila, a sophomore guard, was fouled with 3.9 seconds left in a tie game in overtime. He made both free throws as the Vikings beat Swansboro 54-52 and wrapped up the program's first conference championship since 2002.

DaVonte Brooks, Eastern Randolph, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound forward scored 32 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals in the Wildcats’ 98-70 rout of Trinity. Brooks surpassed 1,000 points for his career, too. He is averaging 27.4 points per game.

Caden Rowe, Newton-Conover, Wrestling

Rowe was named MVP as Newton-Conover rolled past Bunn 51-18 to win the 2-A dual team state championship. Rowe pinned his opponent at 160 pounds.

Nyla Mitchell, Purnell Swett, Girls Basketball

Mitchell did it all, posting a quadruple-double, as the Rams routed Douglas Byrd 81-40. She had 13 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 13 steals. Mitchell also blocked three shots.

Jahriell Murchison, E.E. Smith, Girls Basketball

The 5-foot-6 sophomore hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, lifting her team to a 61-59 conference-clinching win over Terry Sanford. Murchison finished with 24 points, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
