Here are the candidates for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for May 1-6 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday and the winner will be announced Monday, May 8. Cadence Setzer, Crest, Girls Soccer

Setzer scored a hat trick in the Chargers’ 4-1 win over Kings Mountain. The sophomore striker now has 42 goals for the season.

Ellie Garrison, Wheatmore, Girls Soccer

There’s no stopping the junior striker, who is a goal-scoring machine. Garrison scored 14 goals in three games during the week as the Warriors ran their winning streak to 42. The Appalachian State commit now has 70 goals for the season, seven short of her own state record.

Jackson Gause, East Duplin, Baseball

Gause, a senior, fired a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in the Panthers’ 5-0 win over Southwest Onslow. For the season, Gause is 2-1 with a 2.33 earned run average and 55 strikeouts in 42 innings.

Olivia Terry, Dixon, Girls Soccer

The senior midfielder/forward scored the only goal as the Bulldogs beat Swansboro 1-0 to clinch the Coastal 3-A Conference championship.

Crystina Canady, Croatan, Girls Lacrosse

Canady, a sophomore, scored five goals in an 18-1 win over North Brunswick in the second round of the state playoffs.

Blake Hill, East Rowan, Baseball

Hill smashed two home runs and had six RBIs in the Mustangs’ 12-9 win over South Rowan in the conference tournament semifinals. The second one was a three-run walk-off. In the championship game, a 9-6 win over West Rowan, he went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. The Mustangs rallied from a 6-0 deficit. Hill is hitting .471 with 5 homers and 30 RBIs.

Abigail Duckett, South Davidson, Softball

The Pfeiffer commit smashed two home runs in the Wildcats’ 6-4 win over East Davidson in the semifinals of the Central Carolina 1-A/2-A Conference tournament.

Elliott Furr, North Moore, Baseball

Furr had two hits and two RBIs as the Mustangs beat Seaforth 7-1 to win the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament.

Katie Deacon, Freedom, Girls Track and Field

Deacon won three events in the Northwestern 3-A/4-A Conference championship meet. She was victorious in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

Alissa Russ, Oak Grove, Softball

It doesn't get much better than this. Russ pitched an eight-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and hit a walk-off single as the Grizzlies beat North Davidson 2-1 to win the Mid-Piedmont Conference tournament championship, the first-ever in program history. Russ is 11-1 with a 1.14 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 79 2/3 innings.
