Here are the candidates for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for May 8-13 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday and the winner will be announced Monday, May 22. Walker McDuffie, Lee County, Baseball

The junior right-hander threw a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Lee County beat Person 7-0 in the first round of the 4-A state playoffs. McDuffie, a North Carolina commit, was also 1-for-4 with an RBI. He is 7-2 with an 0.78 earned run average and 146 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings for the season.

Mallory Reed, Eastern Wayne, Softball

The freshman sensation threw her second consecutive no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Spring Creek in the first round of the 2-A state playoffs. Reed is 10-1 with an 0.37 ERA and 296 strikeouts in 114 innings. She can hit, too. Reed is batting .638 with 5 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Sawyer Slate, South Stokes, Boys Golf

Slate, a freshman, shot a a 5-under-par 66 to win the Midwest 1-A Regional championship at Colonial Country Club.

Dana Wilson, Greensboro Day, Girls Track and Field

Wilson, a sophomore, swept to dominating victoriesin the 100-meter dash (11.72 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (23.79 seconds) in the Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference championship meet. Both times met the milesplit.com U.S. Second-Team standard.

Justin Mabe, North Davidson, Baseball

The sophomore right-hander hurled a complete game with 11 strikeouts in the Black Knights’ 2-1 win over Rockingham in the first round of the 3-A state playoffs. Mabe, a North Carolina commit, also drove in one of his team’s runs on a fielder’s choice grounder.

Luke Hemric, Apex Friendship, Baseball

Hemric pitched a perfect game in Apex Friendship’s 9-0 win over Pine Forest in the first round of the 4-A state playoffs. The sophomore left-hander, who has committed to North Carolina State, dominated with 15 strikeouts.

Ethan Weinand, Cape Fear, Baseball

The senior outfield/pitcher smashed a walk-off home run as Cape Fear beat West Johnston 5-4 in the first round of the 3-A state playoffs.

Jilian Livengood, Wake Forest, Softball

Livengood pitched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Cougars beat Hoggard 3-0 in the second round of the 4-A state playoffs. The sophomore ace also went 2-for-3 with a two-run double. She is 10-2 with an 0.56 ERA and 204 strikeouts in 87 2/3 innings.

Hunter Atkins, Randleman, Baseball

The UNC-Greensboro recruit smashed two home runs while going 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs as the two-time defending 2-A state champions routed Forbush 13-3 in the second round of the state playoffs.

Logan Dyer, East Rowan, Baseball

The junior right-hander overpowered Asheboro with three perfect innings, striking out 7 of the nine batters he faced, for the save as the Mustangs won 11-6 in the second round of the 3-A state playoffs.
