Ethan Paschal wins NCHSAA 3-A boys golf championship; Terry Sanford wins team title

Paschal overcomes five-shot deficit and wins on fourth hole of sudden death playoff

FOXFIRE, NORTH CAROLINA—Ethan Paschal of Terry Sanford birdied the fourth hole of a sudden death playoff to capture the NCHSAA 3-A boys golf state championship Tuesday at Foxfire Resort.

Paschal fired a 3-under 69 in the second round on the heels of a 1-under 71 in the opening round on Monday. Paschal was five shots off the lead of David Gee of Fred. T. Foard heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Gee stumbled to a 2-over 74 in the second round and was in the playoff along with Paschal and Tyler Jones of Jacksonville.

Paschal, Thomas Horne, Parks Helms, and freshman Charlie Horne of Terry Sanford finished inside the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. The Bulldogs’ 22-over performance landed them 31 shots clear of second place Stuart Cramer.
