Walker Jenkins of South Brunswick selected No. 5 overall in MLB Draft by Minnesota Twins
Walker Jenkins didn't have to wait too long to hear his named called in the Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night.
The star center fielder for South Brunswick was the No. 5 overall pick by the Minnesota Twins.
Jenkins had a career average of .469 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs despite not seeing many pitches during his senior season as opposing teams didn't want to throw to him.
Jenkins has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina the last two seasons and was the top-rated high school player in the draft by several scouting services.
Jenkins, a solid left-handed hitter, led South Brunswick to the NCHSAA 3-A state championship series in 2022
Jenkins is the first top-five pick from North Carolina in the MLB Draft since 2017, when MacKenzie Gore was selected by the San Diego Padres with the No. 3 pick.
