We have eight athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Athlete of the Week from 12-18 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Congratulations to last week's winner, Luke Nebrich of the West Davidson swim team.

Here are this week's nominees:

Leah Edwards, East Rowan wrestling: Edwards was named the Most Outstanding girls wrestler at the first NCHSAA girls' state championship tournament, winning the 114-pound weight class.

Taylor Williams, East Forsyth wrestling: Williams became the first girls wrestler in NCHSAA history to win a state championship, kicking of the state tournament with a pin to win at 165 pounds. Williams finished the season undefeated at 29-0.

Rayshun James, Reidsville wrestling: James won his third straight state title with an overtime win at 132 pounds and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the 2A classification.

Samuel Aponte, Cape Fear wrestling: Aponte won his third straight state championship at 120-pounds and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 3A classification.

Davie County boys wrestling team: The War Eagles followed their dual-team state championship earlier this month with the team title at the NCHSAA 4-A state championships. 

Cameron Stinson, Mallard Creek wrestling: Stinson wrapped up his career undefeated with 205 wins and his fourth straight  4A state title, this one coming at 126 pounds. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler. He is the third wrestler in NCHSAA history to finish unbeaten and the 14th to win four state championships.

Kage Williams, Robbinsville wrestling: Williams became the 13th wrestler in NCHSAA history to win four state championships, taking the 1A title at 190-pounds. 

Snook Peterkin, Mount Tabor basketball: Peterkin scored 34 points to lead the Spartans to a win a West Forsyth, locking up the regular season conference championship in the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln girls basketball: Anderson scored 25 points, had nine rebounds, six assists and four steals in a 78-46 win over North Lincoln.

Molly Burns, Ardrey Kell girls basketball: Burns poured in 32 points in a 78-37 win over Ardrey Kell.
