North Carolina Baseball Player of the Week (3/17/2024)

We have 10 players nominated this week for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Baseball Player of the Week from March 10-16 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, March 23 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Maddox Nelson, South Stokes

Nelson was 4-for-4 with a triple and 7 RBIs as the Sauras pummeled Alleghany 15-0 in five innings. And there’s more. Nelson, a Ferrum College commit, threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Angel Pichardo, Ledford

Pichardo had three hits and four RBIs in the Panthers’ 15-5 rout of Northern Guilford.

Eben Greene, East Forsyth

Greene had two hits, two runs and three RBIs as East Forsyth edged Glenn 8-7.

Will Kennedy, North Moore

Kennedy had three hits and an RBI as the Mustangs outlasted Southeast Alamance 5-4 in 10 innings.

Evan Hodges, Richmond County

Hodges, a sophomore, earned a save with 1 1/3 innings of relief and had an RBI single in the Raiders’ 5-1 victory over Pinecrest.

Tate Andrews, Randleman

Andrews collected four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in five runs as the Tigers downed Wheatmore 12-5.

Travail Barnes, Thomasville

Barnes, a sophomore, allowed one earned run and struck out seven in four innings as the Bulldogs stunned Salisbury 11-1 in six innings. Barnes was also 2-for-3 with 3 stolen bases.

Sam Blackwelder, East Rowan

Blackwelder is just a freshman but he’s raking. In a 16-5 win over Northwest Cabarrus, Blackwelder had a double, triple and five RBIs.

Dylan Scott, East Lincoln

Scott had three hits, including a home run, as the Mustangs drubbed Statesville 17-3.

Colby Lewis, Nash Central

Lewis threw a dominating five-inning two-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Bulldogs pounded Rocky Mount 11-0. He was also 2-for-3 in a 4-2 loss to North Lenoir.
