Congratulations to St. Edward boys basketball guard Michael Bova for being voted SBLive’s Ohio High School Athlete of the Week for March 7-13!
The senior scored his 1,000th career point, as he scored 28 points to beat Mentor 69-60 and advance the Division I regional final.
Bova ran away with this week's honor, receiving 96.23% of the total vote.

Finished as the Division II individual champion, rolling a 684 (230-240-214) series and leading his team to an overall third-place finish.
Kyla Oldacre, Mason girls basketball
Oldacre, who averages 15.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, had 17 points and 13 rebounds and finished as a state runner-up vs. Reynoldsburg after the Comets fell in overtime.
Trey Robertson, Waverly boys basketball
Robertson, who averages 24.5 points per game, dropped 22 points in the Tigers’ 46-45 nail-biter over Heath.
Rich Rolf, Centerville boys basketball
Dropped a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double to pull away from Fairfield 55-39 and clinch the regional title.
Brandon Rose, Gilmour boys basketball
Recorded a new career-high with 29 points in the Lancers' regional final vs. St. Mary’s Memorial to rout the Roughriders 62-35.
Imarianah Russell, Reynoldsburg girls basketball
Scored her 2,000th point en route to dropping 28 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the state championship.
Seth Shumate, Dublin Coffman wrestling
Shumate celebrated with a back flip after winning the Division I state championship at 190 pounds, his third state championship.
Riley Smith, Kettering Alter girls basketball
Led all scorers with 13 points to help win the program’s fifth Division II state title with a 54-38 win over Thornville Sheridan.
Dailyn Swain, Africentric boys basketball
Swain, who averages 21.1 points per game, had a team-high 30 points to lead Africentric past Garaway 61-48 and to a Division III regional title.
Makayla Velasquez, Amherst Steele girls bowling
Took home the OHSAA individual champion title with a 664 series (235-192-237), was named to the 1st Team All-Ohio selection and led the Lady Comets to an overall 9th place finish.
Dee Alexander, Purcell Marian girls basketball
The freshman put together a 25-point, 16-rebound double-double to lead the Cavaliers to their first state championship in program history, defeating Worthington Christian 62-38.
Matthew Bauman, Gilmour ice hockey
Had an assist in the third period and then scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime to defeat St. Francis 2-1 and give the Lancers their first state championship in program history.
Evan Bennett, St. Edward wrestling
After trailing 5-4, Bennett responded with a 6-5 victory to take the 165-pound state championship title and clinch the Eagles’ 42nd state championship and 116th individual championship.
Gavin Brown, Legacy Christian Academy wrestling
The Ohio State commit became a state champion for the third time, taking home the 150-pound crown and helping the Knights finish as Division II state champions for the second consecutive year.
