Medina football routs Solon 48-7 in regular season finale
MEDINA, Ohio – In the final tune-up for the playoffs, Medina had an easy time with a 48-7 win over Solon Friday night to clinch the Greater Cleveland Conference title outright for the second straight season.
Junior quarterback Danny Stoddard had another outstanding night, as he completed 29 of his 39 pass attempts for 409 yards and six touchdowns. It was the fourth time this season Stoddard has thrown six touchdown passes in a game.
Stoddard had three of those touchdown tosses in the first quarter, hitting senior wide receiver Brennen Schramm for a 15-yard touchdown on the game’s first possession, Austin Knowles for 38 yards on the nest possession and then Schramm again for 25 yards to give the Bees a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
After Solon (6-4, 3-2) scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Harley Barmen to Joel Kpassou, Medina (9-1, 5-0) didn’t waste any time coming up with a response.
Stoddard found Schramm for a 57-yard touchdown ]and then the duo connected again for a 6-yard touchdown before Stoddard scored on a run of two yards with 11 seconds left in the second quarter to give Medina a 42-7 lead at halftime.
Schramm had nine catches for 147 yards and four touchdowns catches for the Bees.
Defensively, Medina held Solon to under 225 yards of total offense and forced a pair of turnovers.
Both teams will begin their playoff runs on Friday, October 28, with Medina hosting Strongsville in Division I, Region I and Solon on the road at Hudson in Division II, Region 5. Those are both rematches, as Medina defeated Strongsville 56-35 in Week 5 and Solon fell 14-13 to Hudson in the season’s opening week.
