Ohio's top 2023 high school girls track and field athletes: Meet the state’s best sprinters

We have been taking a look at some of the top track and field athletes in Ohio over the past couple of weeks..

We started with the boys jumpers, girls jumpers, boys hurdlers, girls hurdlers, boys throwers, girls throwers, boys distance runners, girls distance runners and boys sprinters. Now we finish with the girls sprinters.

Ella Baker, sr. Amherst Steele

Last year she was eighth in the Division I 400 with a time of 57.84 and she anchored the eighth place 4x400 relay which returns intact. Indoors she placed fourth in the 400, finishing in 56.89.

Trinity Bibbs, so., Huber Heights Wayne

The sophomore ran the right race at the right time last year, placing third in the Division I 200 in 24.46 after earning her spot in the state meet as a wildcard qualifier. She also placed fourth in the 100 at 11.91 and came back this past winter to finish sixth in the indoor 200 at 24.95.

Te’Aira Branham-Patrick, so., Dayton Chaminade-Julienne

As a freshman last year, it appeared she was being groomed to follow in the footsteps of Jadyn Haywood, who was second in the Division II 100 and 200 last year for C-J. That still may happen, but the Eagles moved up to Division I this year. No problem, as the sophomore won the indoor state title in the 200 (24.25) and was fourth in the 60 (7.59).

Amryne Chilton, sr., Gahanna Lincoln

She didn’t compete in the outdoor state meet last year, but this year the senior was the indoor state champion in the 400, crossing the line in 56.51.

Eve Clark, jr., Euclid

As a sophomore she placed fourth last year in the Division I state meet in the 200 with a time of 24.53. She backed that up in this year’s indoor state meet, taking third with a 24.74 clocking.

Claire Dunn, sr., Shaker Heights

A non-placing qualifier in the Division I 400 last year, she also ran on the 4x200 relay that placed fifth. In this year’s indoor state meet she was second on a lean in the 400 with a time of 56.52.

Riley Evans, jr., Lodi Cloverleaf

After finishing third in the Findlay Division I regional last year, the junior ran a full second faster in the state 400 final and finished a surprising second with a time of 55.99. She also qualified in the 200 but did not place.

Nakeya Hermon, sr., Lorain

The senior was seventh in the Division I 100 with a time of 11.99 and she also was seventh indoors in the 60 with a time of 7.67 seconds.

Kayleigh Keyes, So., Beavercreek

Just a freshman last year, Keyes won the Division I state title in the 400, crossing the line in 55.27.

Abby Love, jr., Mason

Last year the junior was sixth in the Division I 100 with an 11.98 clocking and she backed that up this past winter by placing fifth in the 50 with a time of 7.61 seconds.

Olivia Pace, jr., Westerville Central

The top returner from last year’s Division I 100, where she finished second with a time of 11.71. The junior was also seventh in the 200 in 24.73 and this past winter she was the indoor champion at 60 meters with a time of 7.38 seconds.

Maira Scott, jr., Holland Springfield

A non-placing Division I state qualifier in the 200 and 400 as a freshman, she burst onto the scene last year, taking second in the 200 in 24.39 and was eighth in the 100 in 12.03. Indoors she took second in the 200 in 24.42.

Leah Smith, sr., Tiffin Calvert

The only runner outside of Division I on the list, she took second last year in the Division III 200 with a 25.28 clocking and she also anchored the winning 4x200 relay. Indoors she was the winner of the 200 in 25.01 and was third in the 60 at 7.76 seconds.

Ayanna Stafford, sr., Gahanna Lincoln

The senior was third in the Division I 100 last year with a time of 11.80 and she also qualified in the 200 but did not place.

Makenzie Stuckert, jr., Mentor

Next in line from a program that has had several outstanding 400 runners recently, the junior was fourth in the Division I 400 last year in 56.45 and followed that up by placing third indoors in 56.86.

Summer Swartwout, jr., Cincinnati Colerain

As a sophomore she didn’t compete in the Division I outdoor state meet, but this past winter she was fifth in the 200 at 24.83 and sixth in the 60 at 7.65.

Ric’Keya White, fr., Huber Heights Wayne

The freshman had three high finishes in the Division I indoor state meet, taking second in the 60-meter dash in 7.57, third in the high hurdles in 8.65 and fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.80.

Sydney Workman, sr., Columbus Bishop Watterson

The University of Dayton signee ran on the winning 4x200 relay in Division I in 2021. Last year she was eighth outdoors in the 200 at 24.74 and then she was eighth indoors at 25.19.

Dashayla Worlaw, so., Cincinnati Mt. Healthy

As a freshman she was fifth in the Division I 100 last year with a time of 11.92.
