OHSAA releases 2023 football divisional breakdown

Two state champions from 2022 - Toledo Central Catholic and Marion Local - move down a division

The OHSAA announced the 2023 football divisional breakdowns and regional assignments on Wednesday afternoon. When the new season begins, more than 35 teams will find themselves in a different division than they were in for 2022.

The most notable might be Toledo Central Catholic and Marion Local. Central Catholic, the 2022 Division II state champions, will drop a division and participate in Division III, while Marion Local will drop to Division VII after winning the 2022 Division VI state championship.

Below are the changes in divisions:

Up from Division II to Division I:

NONE.

Down from Division I to Division II:

Clayton Northmont, Central Crossing

Up from Division III to Division II:

Benedictine

Down from Division II to Division III:

Ashland, Aiken, Dover, Goshen, Toledo Central Catholic 

Up from Division IV to Division III:

Rossford, Hawken, Buckeye Valley 

Down from Division III to Division IV:

Sheridan, Washington Courthouse, Jonathan Alder, Firelands, Holy Name

Up from Division V to Division IV:

Cardinal Mooney

Down from Division IV to Division V:

New Lexington, Meadowbrook, Brookside, Bethel-Tate 

Up from Division VI to Division V:

Madison Plains, Worthington Christian

Down from Division V to Division VI:

Northridge, Waynedale, Tinora, Garaway, Wickliffe, Bluffton

Up from Division VII to Division VI:

Riverside East Academy, East Canton, Newark Catholic, Troy Christian

Down from Division VI to Division VII:

Patrick Henry, Beaver Eastern, Dalton, Hopewell-Loudon, Berne Union, Malvern, Marion Local
