Oklahoma 5A boys basketball state tournament roundup: Carl Albert, Del City, Tulsa Memorial, OKC Southeast all record convincing quarterfinal wins

All games were won by double digits.

On the 5A side of things, the quarterfinals, which were held at Noble, included a few blowouts.

Starting the day off was Carl Albert and Collinsville. While Collinsville finished the regular season with three fewer losses, it was the Titans who came to play.

This game was never truly close, as Carl Albert ran away with it early. The Titans ended up winning in dominating fashion, 60-25. 

The Titans were led by a three-man scoring attack featuring Tashawn James, Quincy Hopkins and Jordan England. Each player scored 14 points, as James and Hopkins also reeled in seven rebounds apiece.

Collinsville was led by Cameron Himebaugh, who finished with eight points and two rebounds. The Titans were in control from start to finish.

Del City 73, Claremore 43

In a must-see 5A matchup between Del City and Claremore, the Eagles came out of the gates firing.

Following a barrage of 3-pointers and a night full of fireworks on the offensive end, Del City came away with a dominating 73-43 victory.

Damarious Vealy led all scorers with 16 points and three rebounds, while Terry McMorris had a strong double-double, adding 14 points and 12 boards.

Keith Watson led the way for Claremore, netting 10 points on the evening.

In the first half, the Eagles managed to knock down 10 3-pointers, getting help from everyone on the floor. Vealy led all scorers with 14 first-half points.

Del City had four players record at least eight points in the first half. Star forward Brandon Garrison extended possessions left and right with offensive rebounds, as the Eagles took a 44-21 lead into halftime.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Del City used the help of a deep unit to coast to a 30-point victory. Five different Eagles recorded double figures Thursday night.

Tulsa Memorial 78, Midwest City 37

Another blowout commenced inside Noble High School following Carl Albert’s dismantling of Collinsville.

Memorial defeated Midwest City (19-9) and kept its season alive as the Chargers advanced to the 5A semifinal on Friday.

Tulsa Memorial added to its outstanding record in Thursday's win, improving to 25-1 on the season. Ty Frierson was a large part in Memorial’s victory, scoring 23 with seven assists on the day.

Midwest City forward Jacobi Sebock had an impressive outing in the loss with 14 points.

Memorial started building its lead in the first quarter as the Chargers took off on a 14-0 run to lead Midwest City, 18-11, at the end of the first. By halftime, Frierson already garnered 10 points and an 18-point lead for Memorial.

The Chargers continued to pour it on coming out of the first half as they outscored the Bombers 14-8, leading 55-31 at the end of the third.

With no contest, Memorial’s dominating win sends the Chargers to the semifinal to take on Oklahoma City Southeast on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Norman.

OKC Southeast 66, Bishop McGuinness 53

Southeast took care of business against Bishop McGuinness on Thursday night.

At 22-2, Southeast handily defeated 19-9 McGuinness by a 13-point margin to advance to the 5A semifinal to take on Tulsa Memorial.

Michael Graham Jr. seemed to be the difference maker in the Spartans’ victory.

After facing a 15-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter, Southeast led the Irish, 27-23, at the end of the second. Then, the Spartans sparked an early run to start the second half, opening things up for them to take advantage and extend their lead.

Southeast entered the final quarter up by 15 and didn’t look back, cruising to a 13-point victory.
