A roundup of Friday's boys state tournament action

By Nathan Aker and Ross Lovelace

Compared to the 6A contests, Friday's 5A semifinal matchup between Tulsa Memorial and Oklahoma City Southeast was a blowout inside the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Chargers moved into Saturday's title game with a 75-50 win.

Tulsa Memorial’s standout point guard Ty Frierson put up 24 points and four assists alongside forward Bradyn Hubbard’s 25 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

For Southeast, Ladanian Fields had a 25-point performance and shot 10-of-20 from the field.

Friday morning’s victory meant that Tulsa Memorial will head to the state title game to take on Del City, which won last season's 6A title, on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. inside the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

In the opening frame, Southeast broke out to a 10-7 lead following a seven-point run with 2:29 left in the quarter. Both teams shot under 40 percent throughout the period, but two 3-pointers from the Spartans gave them the advantage.

From there on out, it was all Tulsa Memorial.

The Chargers outscored Southeast 21-12 in the second quarter, and a 7-1 run gave Memorial a 28-22 lead at halftime. Memorial continued to add on to its six-point lead throughout the rest of the game.

After a 23-point third quarter, Memorial headed into the fourth with a 51-36 lead.

The Chargers poured it on in the final period as they executed a nine-point run with 3:26 left in the game, jumping out to as much as a 30-point advantage before the game concluded.

Del City 52, Midwest City Carl Albert 40

Behind a 17-point and eight-rebound performance from junior Terry McMorris, the Del City Eagles win over rival Carl Albert hands them the opportunity to win the 5A title.

Fellow junior star Brandon Garrison had eight points and seven rebounds, and another fellow junior, Percy Green, posted 10 points and a steal.

Del City jumped out to an early 11-point lead at the end of the first frame in part of an eight-point run, and the Titans could not recover. Although, Quincy Hopkins was a bright spot throughout the day for Carl Albert.

Hopkins ended the contest with 16 points, five rebounds and a couple 3-pointers. Jordan England also added nine points for the Titans, but shot just 3-for-12 from the field.

In the second period, Carl Albert hung with the Eagles but could not claw themselves out of its first-quarter hole. Del City headed into the locker room with a 10-point lead, with the score at 23-13.

Carl Albert did outscore the Eagles 12-8 in the third period, but Del City’s offensive firepower was too much in the fourth. A 7-of-14 shooting performance in the quarter saw the Eagles score 21 points and place a bid in the state championship.

OKC Millwood 44, Marlow 42

Marlow and Millwood was a tight game until the final buzzer sounded, as the Falcons advanced to the 3A state championship game behind a 44-42 win in Friday's 3A semifinal at Yukon.

Darius Jones led the Falcons with 12 points, while Josiah Johnson led Marlow with 13.

The Falcons used strong defense in the first half to take a 24-20 lead into halftime. Marlow only made four field goals in the first half thanks to the defensive effort of Millwood.

In the second half, the Falcons tried to stall the game and secure the win. After a Josiah Johnson 3-pointer for Marlow, Millwood’s lead had disappeared.

The Falcons were able to hold on late in a thriller, knocking off Marlow and advancing to play Community Christian at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday inside Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena.

Community Christian 66, Oklahoma Christian School 59

In the 3A boys semifinal matchup at Yukon, the star-studded OCS Saints took on Community Christian. It was a true underdog matchup, as the Royals were ranked No. 14 and the Saints were penciled in at No. 1 all season.

Despite seven 3-pointers from Jon Jon McKee, the Saints were shocked by Community Christian.

The Royals were able to use an overwhelming offensive attack inside and outside to power them to victory. Forward Bai Jobe netted 21 points, while guard Cade Bond added 20.
