A recap of Friday's Oklahoma prep baseball state tournament action

By Buck Ringgold

On Thursday, both Owasso and Edmond Deer Creek survived a pair of tense games to open up the 6A state tournament.

When the two teams faced off in Friday's 6A semifinals, a first-inning home run took away most of the drama.

Jackson Smith's three-run blast in the opening inning set the tone for the Rams, who went on to a 6-2 win at Norman North.

Owasso will be seeking its first state title since 2015 when the Rams face Edmond Santa Fe in Saturday's 6A championship game. First pitch from Oklahoma City's Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark is set for 12:05 p.m.

Smith ended up going 3-for-4 in addition to his three-run shot. Brennan Phillips, the winning pitcher in Thursday's 8-7 quarterfinal win against Edmond Memorial, scored three times.

Jackson Farrell took care of business on the mound in Friday's win, giving up three hits and striking out seven.

Edmond Santa Fe 5, Westmoore 2

Blake Seefeldt had two hits, including a grand slam that capped a five-run third in the Wolves' win.

He also entered the game in a save situation after the Jaguars scored two runs in the last of the sixth and was able to close out the win. Logan Lunceford added a solo shot in the third.

Kade Shatwell was the winning pitcher, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing seven hits. He struck out six.

Class 5A

Piedmont 10, Sapulpa 8

The Wildcats rallied from an 8-4 fourth-inning deficit to eventually have the opportunity to play for the 5A title. Piedmont scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double from Weston Thomas, his second two-bagger for the day.

With the win, Piedmont takes on Duncan at 3 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Duncan 17, Collinsville 6

A two-run homer from Bryson Brooksher highlighted a four-run second as the Demons took a 4-0 lead. They extended that to 11-1 in the third.

An inning later, Duncan built a 17-5 advantage on a home run from Eli Ramirez and a two-run double from Tully Booth.

Class 3A

Kingston 4, Keys 3

Brady Brister uncorked a wild pitch in the top of the seventh which allowed Keys to tie the score at 3-all.

But in the last of the seventh, Brister came through for the Redskins. With the bases loaded, he drilled a single to left to bring in the game-winner.

Kingston will play Washington at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shawnee for the 3A championship.

Washington 9, Salina 4

The Warriors scored two first-inning runs on an error and added two more runs in the third on another error to take a 4-0 lead.

Salina cut it to 4-3 in the fifth on RBI doubles from Greg Willis and Conner Johnson. But an inning later, Washington answered back with an RBI single from Camden Bates and a sacrifice fly from Kane Springer.

Class 2A

Silo 13, Cashion 1

The streaks continue for the Rebels. They hope to keep those going for one more day

The Rebels actually trailed 1-0 in the top of the first in Friday's 2A semifinal at Oklahoma City's Dolese Park. But they scored six of their own in the bottom of the first, capped by a three-run double from Kyler Proctor, and went on to the win.

Sawyer Reddick added an RBI double as part of a three-run third as Silo built a 9-1 advantage. Silo pitchers Delton Roberts, Charlie Gardner and Easton Ford combined on a four-hitter.
