OKLAHOMA CITY - The rumors had been swirling for a couple of weeks that Oklahoma City Millwood’s standout receiver, Jaden Nickens - also a star basketball player - was on the move.

Despite leading the Falcons to a second straight appearance in the Class 2A state championship football game, it appeared the University of Oklahoma commit was on the verge of making a move.

The shoe appears to have dropped Friday afternoon as social media sites and news outlets began reporting that Nickens had transferred away from Millwood to crosstown rival Oklahoma City Douglass (3A-4A). The junior hasn’t publicly announced the transfer as of yet.

Nickens, who was a key part of the Falcons winning the 3A basketball championship last season, will not suit up for Millwood this year. Whether he will play on the hardwood at Douglass has not been reported as of yet. But he appears set to play for coach Stephen Alexander and the defending 4A champions.

Millwood and Douglass face off Jan. 13.

Whether Nickens stays at Douglass for his senior year on the gridiron also remains a question. Douglass (3A) was 0-10 in 2023 under first-year coach Damon Turner. The move to the Trojans could be a precursor for another move after basketball is over.

Nickens is one of the top two Oklahoma players in the 2025 class and is rated as a top-20 wideout nationally. At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he has been a standout playmaker for the Falcons for the past two seasons.

Nickens committed to the University of Oklahoma in August. The Sooners were one of 11 offers he has racked up.

In his final game in a Falcons' uniform, Nickens scored twice in a 41-24 loss to Washington for the 2A state championship. That included an 81-yard interception return for a TD.

But Nickens' finest moment may have come during the semifinal round when he scored on a game-winning kickoff return as time ran out against Kiefer.
